This role in summary

Whirlpool is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a packaging technician opening to join our Stevensville Distribution Lab Operations Team in Stevensville, Michigan. While reporting to the lab supervisor, the technician will be responsible for conducting internal as well external transit and packaging tests on different packages, parts, or home appliance products in the lab while working closely with a dedicated team of product engineers and laboratory technicians.

Each day offers a broad range of opportunities in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be joining a talented team of individuals within our Engineering Laboratory.

After a training period, this position requires a work schedule of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Available to work overtime or weekends as needed.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Accurately follow test procedures, use instrumentation to record data, summarize the test results and write test reports.

  • Work with the warehouses to request products and parts for testing.

  • Provide valuable feedback and insights beyond typical test results to platform engineers.

  • Using a Clamp Truck and Forklift loading trucks move products within and around the lab.

  • Participate in LEAN/CI and 5S activities.

  • Help develop/update test procedures and fixtures.

  • Assist in lab equipment maintenance activities.

  • Frequently be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds – occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance – and move several home appliances daily. (carts and dollies provided).

  • Perform assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Responsible for following procedures and instructions, and be willing to ask for clarification or training as needed.

Minimum requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 6+months working experience in a lab environment

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Outstanding people skills, with the specific ability to interact as a team player.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good attitude with the ability to multitask.

  • High level of motivation and energy.

  • Proficient with Google Suite

  • Experienced in forklift operation.

  • Experience with design of experiments or 6 Sigma.

  • Experience with accelerometers and strain gauge instrumentation.RSRWH
