Google Software Engineering Manager, Core Data Information Retrieval in Bengaluru, India

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).

  • 5 years of experience developing and delivering UIs and front-ends.

  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Core Data Information Retrieval (IR) organization serves Google’s mission by building infrastructure and services that acquire, understand, and organize all types of data, serving as the long term memory and research partner for humans and AI models alike. IR products leverage cutting-edge ML and traditional retrieval technologies to enable fast, planet-scale, retrieval for critical Google businesses.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing a centralized UI that serves as a Pantheon/Cloud Console equivalent for the IR ecosystem, and providing a principled approach to integrating IR development, journeys and existing product interfaces.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

  • Manage and mentor a team of front-end/full-stack engineers including hiring and onboarding the team.

  • Collaborate with IR teams on separate product User interfaces (UIs) projects and new features and deliver high-quality UIs adhering to engineering best practices.

  • Scope, plan, and drive multi-quarter and multi-year projects to turn around the shape of Google's search infrastructure.

  • Partner and collaborate with related Engineering teams, Product Management, UX, and Program Management to ensure effective development of high-quality solutions.

  • Engage with the wider Core Data Front-End community which includes products such as Plex and Data Nexus.
