Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) to join our dynamic Cloud Infrastructure team. You have a background in managing cloud-based database systems, with a particular focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. As a Cloud DBA, you will help ensure the availability, performance, and security and cost-efficiency of our mission-critical database infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Configure, implementing and maintain highly available and scalable database solutions on AWS (MySQL and PgSQL RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift) and Azure (SQL Database, Cosmos DB)
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies
Maintain backup and recovery procedures to minimise data loss and downtime
Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorised access or breaches
Automate routine database tasks using scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) or infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)
Diagnose and resolve database issues to minimise impact on business operations
Work with developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of database solutions
Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in cloud databases, particularly in the AWS ecosystem
Identify and implement cost optimization strategies for cloud database resources
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of experience as a DBA, with 5 years of hands-on experience with AWS database services (MySQL and PgSQL RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, Redshift) and at least 1 year with Azure database services (SQL Database, Cosmos DB)
AWS Certified Database - Specialty or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (preferred)
Strong knowledge of SQL and database administration principles
A solid understanding of cloud database pricing models and cost optimization techniques
Proficiency in scripting (Python, PowerShell) and/or IaC tools (CloudFormation, Terraform)
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
