Responsibilities This position is located at Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB),Assistant Administrator - HQ Operations - Scientific Services Division. As a Chemist (Laboratory Data Management Chemist), you will: Provide lab data support, including queries and customer support to end users that include Scientific Services Division (SSD), other TTB divisions/directorates, or external agencies. Lead and manage assigned area of laboratory data management in SSD. Perform examinations on samples and/or formulas of regulated commodities, including the most complex examinations without technical guidance, using scientifically sound and applicable procedures, and provides expert level regulatory interpretation of analytical data. Prepare technical reports, position papers, memoranda, and documents that are accurate, including clear recommendations for policy decisions. For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: - Applying U.S. laws and/or regulations to alcohol products (beverage or nonbeverage) and/or tobacco products and industry practices; AND - Reviewing production information, formulas, and/or processes; AND - Using analytical techniques, such as gas chromatography or liquid chromatography to examine alcohol or tobacco samples; AND - Following ISO 17025 standards and protocols for chemical laboratories. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks. Education Education Requirements: To be eligible for this position, you must meet the minimum basic educational and/or work experience requirements for chemist positions in the federal government. This includes: A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. A combination of education and experience - course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
