EXAMINATION TITLE: CORRECTION OFFICER Training & Experience Questionnaire Dates February 1 28, 2025 Applications must be received in this office by 4:00 PM January 31, 2025 or be postmarked with that date. Allegany County is temporarily waiving all examination fees for exams being administered between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2025 Vacancies: The eligible list resulting from this exam will be used to fill vacancies and all future vacancies as they occur in Allegany County Sheriffs Office. Candidates must have been legal residents of Allegany County and adjoining counties (Wyoming, Livingston, Steuben, Cattaraugus, McKean, and Potter Counties) for at least one month immediately preceding the date of the written examination. Preference may be given to residents of Allegany County or a political subdivision of Allegany County. An official application form must be filed for each examination. You are responsible for completing all sections of the application. Exam number and title must be recorded on the application. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS MAY BE DISAPPROVED. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate level driver license at time of appointment. Completion of New York State Commission of Corrections training prior to completion of the probationary period. Condition of Part Time Employment: Must work a minimum of twenty hours per month to maintain active status. Shifts may involve days, nights, and/or weekends. DUTIES: The work involves responsibility on an assigned shift for the enforcement of rules and regulations governing the custody, security, conduct, discipline, safety and general well being of inmates in a county correctional facility, in a direct supervision environment. The duties involve considerable inmate contact and supervision in a work, recreation or learning environment. Work procedures are well defined but incumbents must be alert to possibilities of emergency situations arising and exercise sound judgment when problems occur. The work is performed under general supervision of a higher-level correctional supervisor with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in dealing with day to day situations in the facility.
