Key job responsibilities

This role is with Amazon Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging which designs custom packaging automation, conveyance and sortation solutions for large-scale deployment in Amazon’s fulfillment network. We build the Robotics solutions that enable the efficiencies that customers have come to expect from Amazon's retail business. We focus on safety, speed of delivery, optimization and value. We tackle big goals and work hard to make automation history through invention, problem-solving, and highly-engaged teams. We are a global organization with research and development in North America and Europe.

Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to design and implement electrical systems for power and signal distribution. You will work closely with hardware and controls engineers to create and document industrial electrical architectures for our custom automation systems. You are familiar with safety and compliance standards for electrical systems that used in industrial buildings, such electrical panel cabinets and NEC electrical code. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in team settings, have a high standard for execution, and desire to mentor junior Electrical Engineers.

A day in the life

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will:

• Work with interdisciplinary teams to architect and execute electrical designs from concept to production, including prototyping, validation, testing, and certification.

• Architecture and design of industrial electrical systems and work closely with the Controls team.

• Write and develop functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures.

• Manage multiple projects in parallel .

• Support product release to manufacturing and customer deployments.

• Establish development processes to meet industry standards for functionally safe control systems (IEC 61508).

• Travel to development sites to troubleshoot issues.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS / MS Electrical Engineering (or similar field)

  • 10 + years of experience in industrial or commercial electrical design, including power distribution

  • Practical knowledge and understanding of the NEC electrical code

  • Ability to lead a technical team

  • Experience designing complex schematics for industrial application

  • Experience in Controls System

  • Experience with serial communication interfaces (CAN, SPI, Ethernet, etc)

  • Experience executing design reviews in front of interdisciplinary teams

  • Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills

  • Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience with the project management of technical projects

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production

  • Experience applying IEC 60204 and/or IEC 61508 machinery safety standards

  • Experience in electromagnet design, control and implementation

  • Experience designing, developing and certifying safety rated hardware systems

  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving EMI/EMC issues

  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
