THE ROLE Firewalk is looking for a Senior Live Ops Engineer, who will help drive the efforts related to observability pipelines that will help the studio deliver high quality online gaming experience for our players. As a Live Operations Engineer, you will work with various stakeholders to help architect the metrics and logs integration pipeline, game health dashboards and automated alerts. The observability data sources will include backend services, server and client data, analytics data, and platform metrics etc. You will play a pivotal role in developing a central information hub that reflects the quality of player experience in the live environments. WHO YOU ARE You are familiar and experienced in cloud technologies used for developing microservices, and servers hosting technologies used in multiplayer games. You enjoy collaborating and bringing alignment between stakeholders spread across various time zones. You have a strong understanding of the analytics and telemetry pipelines commonly used for live multiplayer games. You are passionate about developing automation frameworks and tools that help optimize the manual effort needed to track the health of the game in live environments. You can navigate challenging, ambiguous situations to help achieve common ground resulting in forward momentum and tangible results. WHAT YOUR DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE Work with various stakeholders to understand the architecture of the backend microservices and their usage by the game. Incrementally develop tools and integration scripts to aggregate the metrics and logs into dashboards and alerts. Collaborate with technical production team members, release management and the DevOps team members to understand the end-to-end process of releasing game updates. Help identify various potential areas of systemic issues in the live environment and develop standards to monitor, mitigate/fix them. Work with the external partners and network operations center members to establish round the clock monitoring and incident management runbooks. QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years of experience in working as a site reliability engineer or live ops engineer for highly scalable multiplayer games. 3+ years of experience in cloud technologies/microservices developed using AWS that include EKS, Amazon ECS (or equivalent). 3+ years of experience in metrics and observability solutions such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus (or equivalent). Ability to participate and collaborate with distributed teams across the globe. Experience in working on systems that span multiple disciplines within the engineering domains.
