Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer, WorldWide Operations Sustainability in Bellevue, Washington

Are you excited about uncovering actionable insights to reduce emissions across operations? The Worldwide Operations (WW Ops) Sustainability Business Intelligence team is seeking an exceptional Business Intelligence Engineer to join our team. This is a unique, high visibility opportunity for someone with a passion to dive deep into disparate, large-scale data sets, surface data that provides insights to leaders, and ultimately have an impact on reducing carbon emissions in WW Ops. Our team works with stakeholders across Amazon to drive, report and implement initiatives that will help Amazon be carbon neutral by 2040. We interface with Core Operations, Network Planning, Business Development, Finance, Worldwide Sustainability, Procurement and Science teams to ingest data, compute metrics and surface insights which help track the carbon intensity of Amazon shipments and identify opportunities that will benefit the environment.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical abilities, outstanding business acumen and judgment, intense curiosity, strong technical skills, superior written and verbal communication skills. They will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while paying careful attention to detail), and enjoy working in a fast-paced dynamic environment. To be successful in this role, you should have broad skills in database design, be comfortable dealing with large and complex data sets, and have experience building self-service dashboards. In addition to leading the design, development, and management of our analytical tools and reporting, we will also look to this person to provide thought leadership and business analysis support as needed.

The candidate will need to understand the complexities of a high growth, fast-paced, high performing organization and possess the ability to handle multiple abstract projects while dealing with constant change. They should have a strong desire to achieve results, continuously raise the bar, and demonstrate an ability to effectively manage time, priorities and deliverables.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable, automated, user-friendly systems, reports, and dashboards that will support business needs

  • Inspect key metrics to uncover trends and root causes of issues

  • Invent and innovate: tell the story of business trends, patterns, and outliers through rich visualizations

  • Work closely with various stakeholders to define the information needed and how best to present it

  • Suggest and build new metrics that enable better perspective on business

  • Design and develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly dashboards, scorecards and reporting for the team and present insights to stakeholders

  • Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
