Citigroup Margin Operations Senior Analyst - AVP (hybrid) in Belfast, United Kingdom

Our Operations groups are core to the success of the Markets business and have significant impact across the lifecycle of a trade. We partner extensively with a range of internal stakeholders including Front Office Sales and Trading Desks, Compliance, Legal, Finance and HR; alongside having significant interaction with our external client base, playing a key role in the overall client experience. We have a Client relationship group, dedicated to overseeing the Organizational service performance and strategic partnership for our top tier client base, where we play a key role in supporting our global clients to ensure they have a first-class experience when doing business with Citi.

Our Business Intelligence and Process Re-engineering group works alongside our Operations teams delivering automation solutions to solve for operational challenges. We partner with Citi’s innovation labs to drive optimization, and overall play a pivotal role in enabling us to transform to achieve our target operating model.

Our Technology partners develop and implement a wide range of applications that support the Operations, Change, Design and Implementation groups in providing innovative products and solutions. We have re-imagined how to provide technology and service in our domain through the alignment of our team vision, culture, and aggressive retirement plan for legacy applications and adoption of a micro-based containerized cloud environment. Job Purpose:

Margin Operations is part of Markets Operations and helps mitigate credit risk and comply with regulatory requirements through the completion of core responsibilities that include: (i) margin calls processing to ensure successful receipt and/or payment of agreed and eligible collateral, (ii) collateral optimization, (iii) resolution and escalation of exceptions (fails/cash breaks/margin disputes, etc) and (iv) regulatory compliance through collecting/posting of eligible collateral, completing portfolio reconciliations and providing client valuations.

Margin Operations plays a significant role in supporting both internal and external clients throughout the end-to-end margin process and covers the following products: (i) OTC Derivatives, (ii) Futures/Clearing, (iii) Fixed Income Finance (Repo/TBA), (iv) Prime Broker and (v) Cross Product Margining. Interaction and collaboration with Front Office (Sales and Trading), Credit Risk, Finance, Legal and Compliance is required as part of the daily margining process.

Margin Operations also plays a role in ensuring it is continuously trying to maintain and improve its controls and processes, while ensuring it remains compliant with new regulations as they arise and executing its transformation strategy. The team works closely with internal Transformation and Technology teams when required to work on such deliverables.

  • This is an exciting opportunity to get directly contribute to Citi’s ongoing transformation agenda, through the channel of the Markets Margin & Derivatives Settlements Operations strategic and regulatory initiatives component of this agenda.

  • This is an Assistant Vice President (AVP) role within the Markets Operations Organisation, in the Margin Operations team where you will sit in the newly formed Margin & Derivatives Settlements Strategy team. This is a great opportunity to join a new pillar of the Margin & Derivatives Settlements organization, focused on attracting individuals with a continuous improvement mindset and aptitude for problem solving, and be part of the team’s expansion over time.

  • The purpose of this job is to increase the Margin & Derivatives Settlements Strategy teams capability to self-generate quality ideas to improve existing processes, play a key role in existing projects on the roadmap, as well as act as a SME/quality control on new projects or regulations requiring our consideration and our Margin technology team. There is a strong focus on obtaining clear benefits and requirements to allow for effective prioritization. You will play a key role in helping shape the prioritization of the Margin & Derivatives Settlements Operations senior management agenda and Margin and Derivatives Settlements Technology book of work.

  • You will develop a broad and detailed understanding of the Organization’s landscape, culture, processes, and Technology.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

  • Accountable for integrity of process, operations, and end results. Implements a successful risk/control environment related to collateral and/or margin processes.

  • Providing input into initiatives to continuously improve straight through processing (STP) rates, including the use of robotics, workflow, and other innovative re-engineering technique.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant experience, preferably with experience working in a financial services role where you have had to be analytical, process oriented and delivered change.

  • Foundational experience and knowledge of Margin/Collateral Management or Derivatives Settlements operational functions.

  • Experience participating in delivery of change programs in some capacity and demonstrating business analysis and requirement writing skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders of different levels of seniority and from different areas of firm – candidate will have support to develop under the Margin Strategy team lead.

  • Motivation and intellectual curiosity to learn about the full ‘front-to-back’ process and related teams’ overtime to be more effective, rather than just thinking ‘inside the box’ of your direct function.

  • Requires analytical skills to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex material from multiple sources.

  • Presents data and analyzes/validates to develop valued added solutions to increase productivity and efficiencies, mostly but not limited to, collateral and margin.

  • Ability to build relationships.

  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; ideally with a leadership mindset

  • Strong risk management and control mindset

  • In time, ability to establish and build trust with professionals throughout the business as a leader, advisor, and business partner to the organization with a clear client orientation.
