Period of Work: May-August 2025
Full-Time: 40 hours a week
Location: McLean, VA and Bedford, MA
In Office Requirement: Hybrid (2-3 days a week)
The Proactive Safety Monitoring Department (P234), a member of the Transportation Safety Division, is seeking to advance global transportation safety through focused development and application of aviation data engineering practices and analytic architectures, collaborative research environments, AI/ML and Natural Language Processing, flight operations data analytics, and safety metrics definition and analysis to advance continuous and proactive safety monitoring to achieve the Next Level of Transportation Safety.
Job Responsibilities:
Prototype LLM-based tools to meet operational needs
Pretrain and/or finetune aviation domain-specific LLMs
Develop LLM benchmarks
Basic Qualifications:
Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
Sustained excellence in academic performance
Preferred Qaulifications:
Experience having applied computer science or artificial intelligencelearning to an internship or research/lab position
Demonstrated experience in the development of LLM-based prototype tools and capabilities
Demonstrated experience in pre-training and fine-tuning LLMs
