Nike Senior Assistant General Counsel, Global IP Litigation in Beaverton, Oregon

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an experienced intellectual property (“IP”) litigation attorney to join NIKE’s Global Litigation Team. We are looking for a creative, proactive and flexible advocate who can prioritize tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence. As our Senior Assistant General Counsel, Global IP Litigation, you will serve as an advisor and counselor to our business on intellectual property litigation issues and risk. We need someone to be very involved and deeply engaged with the business and who desires working in a high energy environment. You must have strong interpersonal skills – you must be an excellent communicator to all levels verbally and in writing, a good listener, comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

As Senior Assistant General Counsel, Global IP Litigation, you will be a go-to member of NIKE’s Global Litigation team, tasked with the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights and defending IP-related claims. The role covers all aspects of IP including trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, designs, patents, trade secrets, publicity and related rights. You will be responsible for setting, directing and executing global IP litigation/enforcement strategies both independently and in collaboration with our Global IP Team colleagues; analyzing evidence; providing risk assessments; and counseling our business and legal partners on a variety of IP-related issues. You will also actively manage outside counsel, external and internal witnesses, facilitate discovery and establish and manage budgets.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will report to the Senior Director, Global IP Litigation, and you will work closely with your legal colleagues in the IP, Litigation, and Brand Protection teams. You will engage with business and legal partners across a variety of business functions including commercial, technology, innovation, marketplace and brand, and across multiple geographies. People will appreciate your ability to be resourceful in the face of ambiguity and to find solutions.

WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE

  • Juris Doctorate degree

  • Minimum 8 years of experience, either within a law firm or within a law firm and corporation with primary emphasis on litigation

  • Extensive experience with IP litigation, including hands-on trial work in District Court and administrative tribunals including the PTAB, TTAB and ITC

  • A firm understanding of and holistic approach to all aspects and dimensions of IP protection, including trademarks, trade dress, copyright, patents, design, trade secrets, publicity and related rights

  • Demonstrated ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyze legal and commercial risks and propose creative, business-oriented solutions

  • Seasoned communication skills—able to influence at a variety of levels and across functions in a complex matrix organization

  • Ability and experience working closely and collaboratively with global teams, including across multiple time zones.

  • Strong leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to lead team-based projects

  • Self-starter with a bias for action, who can operate independently with a high degree of confidence in a publicly traded, multi-national organization.

  • Ability to work efficiently and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and with a demanding case workload, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.

  • Ability to travel, primarily U.S., some international.
