Nike Director, Software Engineering in Beaverton, Oregon

The Product Innovation and Consumer Creation team provides the foundation for how we make Nike product; from innovation, to design, development, line planning, and merchandising. We build the tools and enable Nike to keep pace with consumers and stay ahead of what they want.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead teams that build and develop web experiences, core platform APIs leveraging AI/ML for Nike’s Merchandising functions. This role will need to seamlessly partner and collaborate with business teams, other technology leaders, engineers, architects, and product managers to drive rapid value delivery of reusable, well-architected and highly scalable solutions to modernize Nike’s technology landscape.

This role will lead, support and develop engineering team members, manage priorities and deliver results across boundaries. The successful candidate is an inclusive and empowering technology leader with a history of building trust, tight partnerships and enabling agile teams to solve technical problems in a product model.

What will you do?

This role will lead, mentor, and manage multiple engineering squads to deliver software in alignment to cross-functional and multi-year roadmaps and modern industry trends. You will build a culture of trust and innovation, pushing our teams to explore new and emerging technologies and how those can help us deliver business value at scale. Enable continuous transformational changes to accelerate Nike’s technical maturity, experimentation, standards, best practices, and developer productivity, while inspiring a rich global engineering culture.

Who will you work with?

As a leader in our organization, you will also partner closely with leadership, product managers, architects, principal engineers, and peers across Merchandising and Consumer Product and Innovation to manage priorities and drive alignment on technical decisions. Your team will be a high-performing group of software engineers that will be looking to you to empower them, remove barriers, and maintain a strong team culture.

What you bring

  • 10+ years experience leading high performing software engineering teams

  • 5+ years in a leadership role with direct reports

  • 5+ years experience with cloud native technologies or platforms like AWS, Azure or other major cloud providers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both technical and business-facing

  • Strength in strategic thinking and translating strategy to measurable objectives

  • Track record of inspiring others & positive change in solution design, technical delivery, and process improvement

  • Passion for learning new technologies, patterns, and practices

  • Experience with Agile software development methodology and DevOps (CICD)

  • Experience with deploying, monitoring and tracing solutions using tools like Splunk, SignalFx and New Relic

  • Fluent in modern software architectural principles and patterns (e.g. REST, domain-driven design, microservices, etc.)

  • Experience with current front-end web application tech (e.g. javascript, CSS, html5, Vue, React/redux)

  • Experience with distributed cloud systems tech (e.g. node.js, EC2, Kubernetes, Lambda, Bedrock, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch)

  • Experience with implementing or integrating AI, Machine Learning and related data solutions preferred.
