Nike Director, Product Development Engineering, Tooling & Simulation in Beaverton, Oregon
WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
This role will lead a team comprised of tooling and FEA engineers as well as tooling programmers to drive Air MI’s tooling engineering strategy, best practices for design and the adoption of digital design and simulation capabilities. They will report to the Sr. Director, Product Development Engineering, Innovation. The role will collaborate closely with Design Engineering, Materials Product Engineering, a 24/7 Machine Shop, IT, Product Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Production partners. Additionally, and will collaborate across Nike in various organizations including with Future Cushioning Systems and the Bowerman Footwear Lab.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Director, Product Development Engineering, Tooling & Simulation to join Air Manufacturing Innovation. This role is a key member of the team that delivers AIR by driving the adoption of digital design and simulation capabilities and elevating and driving tooling and design best practices and standards. They will prioritize and be creative in a constrained environment, engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, and clear obstacles for their team. The right person for this role will bring a broad expertise in at least one of Tooling, Simulation Engineering, Manufacturing, and/or Material Science Engineering and will set and drive the tooling engineering strategy informed by the state of art in industry adapting to business constraints. The candidate should possess a can-do mentality and a hands-on approach to problem solving. Additional key attributes include strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, experience working in a machining, tooling and manufacturing setting, experience improving efficiencies in a team, and the ability to connect the dots between science and business goals. The candidate should be adaptable, solutions-oriented, inclusive, and respectful.
At least 10 years engineering experience (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Chemical)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Material, Manufacturing or equivalent combination of education, experience or training.
Experience leading a team, communicating a vision and creating and driving a strategy
Experience in Tooling, Tooling Design, and background in low volume high mix machining
Experience in FEA Abaqus and Altair FEA tools
Knowledge of Siemens NX application a plus
Knowledge of Thermoforming of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes, RF Welding, Additive Manufacturing and Part Trimming
Proven ability to work with associates of all levels including people leaders, experts, engineers, technicians, and supervisors.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
You will lead and inspire a passionate Tooling Engineering team responsible to drive tooling design for machining and programming, program CNC milling machines in the machine shop to fabricate production and prototype tooling, molds, die fixtures, and machined parts to support our manufacturing facility, troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes, and support innovation projects. You get to create and improve our tooling operational excellence, lead the delivery of predictive assessments of tooling designs, drive new design automation creation and implementation, and drive computational design processes.

You will deliver Siemens NX and Solidwork upgrades (CAD/CAM software)
