GE Aerospace Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Castings in Beavercreek, Ohio

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a high performing individual who has demonstrated strong leadership behaviors, is effective at fostering collaborative relationships, and thrives working in a continuous improvement environment. In this role, those skills will be applied to improve SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) in our investment casting foundry while working alongside the operations leader and other support functions. This role functions with some autonomy as the casting engineer has the technical responsibility of all equiax casting processes .

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define and control production processes including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment.

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of casting processes, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses judgment to propose and execute different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Identifies and executes capital expenditures.

  • Leads projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

  • Collaborates with Design Engineering to improve casting producibility (existing and new product introduction).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in casting related process experience (preferably equiax castings) + Minimum of 3 years of (casting related process experience (preferably equiax castings)

  • Minimum 2 years of casting related process experience (preferably equiax castings)

  • Knowledge of wax, soluble, and ceramic core die design to the extent required to convey requirements to tool design resources.

  • Familiarity with RP pattern usage in an NPI environment (SLA, printed wax, etc.)

  • Functional process knowledge of equiax casting processes (wax inject, shell slurry formulation, mold wrap, pre-heat/pour temps, post-cast processes, heat treat, NDT's (FPI/Xray))

  • General understanding of process capabilities of an equiax casting foundry to provide direction to design engineering during NPI (New Product Introduction) environment(s)

  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects

  • Excellent communication skills (both internal and external customers)

  • Experience with high temp alloys (INCO 625, INCO 718, Rene 41, etc.)

  • Ability to utilize available data to identify project focus areas to improve product yield, lead time, cost, etc.

  • Ability and willingness to travel, when necessary
