TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E049 Transportation Specialist I - IV in Beaumont, Texas

Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Specialist I:Assists with administering and monitoring district maintenance contracts and service agreementsAssists with administering contracts for installation and maintenance of traffic systems and/or traffic data collectiondevices.Assists with coordinating and/or monitoring Community Traffic Safety Programs and activities involving preparation of theDistrict Highway Safety Plan.Assists with project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.Assists with traffic management programs/projects involving technical employees engaged in developing, installing,testing, programming and repairing electrical/electronic devices/systemsEnsures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standardsMonitors operations of the ITS for an area-wide transportation systemRepresents the Department at various meetings.Reviews and revises Plans, Specifications Estimates and project designs for traffic control devices, signals, signs,markings, detours, traffic control plans, roadway illumination, traffic management systems or Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS).Performs all other job responsiblities as assigned. Transportation Specialist II:The above and:Coordinates traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projectsincluding signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices.Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, and regulations; and the Texas Manual on UniformTraffic Control DevicesImplements proper traffic control procedures and safety precautions at construction sites to preclude traffic congestionand accidents; identifies utility locations and directs use of proper equipment.Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, trafficmanagement systems or other traffic related items.Transportation Specialist III: The above and: Assists in overseeing and/or monitoring Community Traffic Safety Programs and activities involving preparation of theDistrict Highway Safety Plan.Assists in overseeing traffic management programs/projects involving technical employees engaged in developing,installing, testing, programming and repairing electrical/electronic devices/systemsProvides technical expertise and oversight/coordination of transportation programs in a district or divisionServes as program coordinator responsible for coordination of highly advanced engineering/architectural projects frominitiation to completion.Transportation Specialist IV:The above and:Coordinates engineering field staff activities and provides high-level technical assistance in resolving constructionproblems.Performs complex data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plandevelopment.
