As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled form this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1-Class E, Driver’s License will be required upon appointment and a Class D Chauffeurs License will be required upon permanent status. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06 /hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2-Class A, Commercial Driver’s License will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY-Class A, Commercial Driver’s License will be required uponappointment. Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $21.05/hourly.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NOTE:

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator--Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.

Examples of Work

50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:

  • Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted)

  • Backhoes

  • Front end loaders

  • Bucket/ladder trucks

  • Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs. but <40,000 lbs.

  • Dozers (<140 HP)

  • Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)

  • Gradalls

  • Hot mix pavers (<40 HP)

  • Motor Grader

  • Lowboys

  • Milling machines (<90 HP)

  • Road planer

  • Road widener (<90 HP)

  • Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted)

  • Striping machines

  • Sweepers

  • Track hoes (excavators)

  • Under bridge inspection units (trailer mounted)

40% Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72+-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, removing dead animal carcasses, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomplish the department’s mission.

5% Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacture’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.

5% Will be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
