This vacancy is located in theDPS PoliceCapitol DetailSection in the Office of State Police located inEast Baton Rouge Parish. This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment or job appointment.

Applicants must live within 75 miles from 1835 N. River Road Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.

During the interview process, you will indicate your preference of section; Commanders will consider this when making hiring recommendations. Typical job duties include:

Capitol Detail– Officers assigned to these duties conduct proactive police patrols of the State Capitol Complex and downtown Baton Rouge. Officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct proactive traffic and criminal enforcement, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity. In addition to their police duties, officers frequently act as ambassadors of the state as they interact with visitors to our great state.

State Facilities Security- Officers assigned to these duties provide police protection to thousands of state employees and visitors throughout Louisiana. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct frequent security patrols, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity.

Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements. Non-POST certified applicants may be required to pass a physical assessment that consists of a timed 1.5 mile run (20 minute maximum time), push-ups (minimum of 10), and sit-ups (minimum of 10).

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained twenty-first birthday at time of application.

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment.

May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.

May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
