LASERS requires all new hires to serve a minimum of eighteen (18) months not to exceed twenty-four (24) months in probational status including permanent state employees.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience or training in clerical work.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To perform a wide variety of clerical duties that requires independent judgment to accomplish in support of the staff members and/or operations of an organizational unit or program.

Some discretion is required in the performance of these duties. Duties begin to expand in scope and complexity, and develop into departmental-program duties.

Level of Work:

Advanced.

Supervision Received:

General from higher-level clerical and/or supervisory personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

May supervise 1-2 lower-level personnel.

Location of Work:

May be used by all state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Administrative Coordinator 2 by the presence of responsibility for clerical duties that involve greater scope and complexity, including initial program duties.

Differs from Administrative Coordinator 4 by the absence of paraprofessional duties that involve a higher degree of specialization, complexity, and/or independent judgment.

Examples of Work

Assist and prepare outgoing correspondence for an average of 220,000 pieces, including but not limited to daily correspondence, annual disability reporting forms, student survivor tracking

forms, DROP statements, retirement and refund checks, and others.

Maintain detailed records and is responsible for the tracking of Certified mail, UPS, and Federal Express Parcels. Serve as a liaison with LASERS Board Materials, courier services, credit unions, Federal Express, US Postal Office, all outside vendors, and current Board doctors’ offices.

Assist in processing active member beneficiary changes monthly. Also assist in the processing of retired member beneficiary changes in the appropriate workbasket and updating retiree

addresses. This entails researching the member’s file to verify membership and input data to update SOALRIS which houses this information according to internal guidelines.
