As a Sr Engr Spec-Systems Engrg you will contribute to the end-to-end operations, availability, reliability, and scalability of the VDI environment at Verizon and develop solutions to complex business problems. The skills required would need to be aligned with developing solutions via programming languages such as Python, Java, Nodejs, C#, and PowerShell. The goal will be to build new and uplift existing automation developed in legacy coding languages, such as vbscript, batch, etc., to a modern language to integrate with modern APIs. Eliminating manual toil, improving systems observability, and driving operational efficiencies across the VDI environment.Additionally, the role will continuously improve the VDI service and provide Tier 3-level support for VDI infrastructure and end users. A strong background in Citrix and/or other virtual desktop products is required. The role will also be considered one of the main liaisons to the VDI Engineering team relating to new initiatives or technical programs. This will entail having a seat at the engineering table and being able to contribute with an eye on operationalizing all new applications and processes.What we're looking for:- Collaborating with other engineers and teams to design, develop, test, and implement availability, reliability, scalability, and toil reduction solutions for the applications and platforms within your remit- Implementing infrastructure and configuration as code for applications and platforms- Collaborating with technical experts, key stakeholders, and team members to resolve complex problems- Understanding service level indicators and utilizing service level objectives to proactively resolve issues before they impact customersYou'll need to have:- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant experience- Four or more years of related work experience- Proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, Nodejs, C#, or PowerShell- Experience in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7.x + administration- Experience managing modern Windows operating systems and server platforms such as Windows 10 - 11 and Windows Server 2016 - 2022.- Technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of customer organization- Experience with enterprise-wide software and desktop deployments- Experience in observability, such as white and black box monitoring, service level objective alerting, and telemetry collection using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, and others- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform- Proficient in debugging and troubleshootingEven better if you have one or more of the following:- A Degree- Experience working in an Agile environment.- Familiarity with site reliability culture and principles- Familiarity with System Designs and Software Architect Principles- Familiarity with Active Directory administration, including Group Policy Objects (GPO) management- Familiarity with database relational and NoSQL such as MySQL, SQL, and DynamoDB- Willingness to provide on-call support as requiredThis role may be considered as part of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.Where you'll be workingIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.Scheduled Weekly Hours40Equal Employment OpportunityWe're proud to be an equal opportunity employer - and celebrate our employees' differences, including race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, and Veteran status.
