What you’ll learn & achieve:

As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for aProject Engineer, Fire Safetyto work in partnership with a fire testing lab in the Cotswolds.

Dedicated to the Built Environment division, you will be managing and delivering new engineering projects from start to finish, throughout the whole project lifecycle in accordance with the relevant UL and International Safety standards.You will know ULs certification systems, services and processes well to partner with and assist our customers in their product safety certification journey. You will complete work that matters.

Key responsibilities:

  • Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analysing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction. Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites

  • Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements. Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues. Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services

  • Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements. Notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications

  • Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of Laboratory Technicians and support staff and establishing completion dates. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. Serves as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned

  • Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages

  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job

  • Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analysing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.

What makes you a great fit:

The ideal candidate would be someone who is keen to work for an international company such as UL Solutions, to explore the experience of corporate business.

Ideally, you will have 3-5 years’ experience as a Project Engineer in fire testing (resistance) world and hold a fire certification experience.

Essential skills:

  • University degree in engineering, engineering technology, industrial technology, manufacturing technology, or physics from an ABET accredited program

  • Able to build rapport and communicate effectively with Clients and UL colleagues

  • Able to travel to Clients' sites and manage own schedules

  • Outstanding project management, record and time keeping skills

  • Client-centric, Agile, Collaborative, taking pride and striving for excellence

    Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of relevant fire safety standards: EN Testing , BS, UL Standards , UKCACE Standards , EN 13501-2 for sure, EN 13501-1 , EN 1363-1, EN 1363-2, EN 1364-4 , EN 1366-3, AS1530.4, UL 10B, UL 10C, UL 1479, UL 2079 , ASTM, NFPA, IFC, ISO

    Location: The position is open to applicants in our UK sites: Basingstoke, Telford or Warrington. You must be willing to travel to our partner fire testing facility in the Cotswolds.
