Custom Job Purpose:

This position will work with students, parents, teachers, and school administrators to provide positive ways for working successfully with students who have difficulties conforming to acceptable behavior patterns. Will actively participate in the development and implementation of programs, policies, and practices relative to the management of students# problematic behaviors. The implementation will often involve collaboration with school-based and district-level teams to develop and implement appropriate behavior management techniques with school-based and district personnel.

Essential Functions of this Job

  • Conducting initial Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and utilizing other assessment strategies to develop behavior plans for individual students. These plans must be able to be implemented by parents, teachers, and other school personnel who also work with the student.

  • Teaching, modeling, and coaching the implementation of the plans.

  • Collecting behavioral data to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies and facilitating the use of this data to inform decisions.

  • Developing and facilitating reinforcement-based classroom management systems.

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Consulting with school-based staff to develop behavioral contingencies and routines for effective student participation in many non-classroom environments (ex. lunchroom, school bus, car drop off, etc.).

  • Assisting to develop and implement crisis management plans including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).

  • Maintaining Behavior Analysis as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) certification and certification in district approved crisis intervention techniques.

  • The ability to provide consultation that addresses the educational and behavioral needs of students is crucial; this position will consult and collaborate with parents, students outside agencies, and school personnel. Will also serve as an active member of school-based Problem-Solving Teams when possible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong commitment to ensuring equity and inclusion for students with intensive behavioral needs. Thorough understanding of best practices for supporting students with behavioral needs and commitment to working with students with severe, challenging behaviors. Excellent analytical and data-based decision-making skills; proven ability to interpret multiple metrics and use data to inform action plans for students and schools. Strong customer-service orientation in approach to work with teachers and school leaders.

Effective and professional communication. Always maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Critical thinking skills and problem solving. Strong computer skills. Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality. Bilingual/bi-literate preferred.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

  • Bachelor#s degree in Behavior Analysis or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Board Certification in Behavior Analysis as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) as designated by BCBA.

  • Three (3) years of experience in applied behavior analysis and/or behavior management.

Work Context:

Requires some sitting and standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals, and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment:

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district and, infrequently, out-of-town travel with reimbursement in accordance with district policy.
