Overview
UIC Construction, LLC specializes in construction projects in remote locations throughout Alaska with
challenging logistics and weather conditions. During the company’s 30‐plus years of working in Alaska
and the Lower 48, UIC Construction has completed well over $1 billion in construction projects over a
diverse variety of project types and sizes. UIC Construction’s capabilities include the following services:
preconstruction planning and estimating; Arctic construction and remote site logistics; and design/build
and fixed‐price construction. These services encompass both civil and vertical construction with a focus
on providing employment opportunities throughout the communities of Alaska.
The Heavy Equipment Technician will provide support within the Heavy Equipment Department and will be a key member of this project team. The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for coordinating with Barrow based UIC Heavy Duty Shop Foreman to repair, maintain and support the UIC Construction fleet of approximately 400 pieces of construction equipment and construction vehicles.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
Coordinate with HD Shop Foreman and other HD Shop Mechanics to identify, prioritize, and execute all repair and maintenance needs.
Identify any additional service work found during repair or servicing of the equipment.
Work with the HD Shop Foreman and other HD Shop Mechanics to diagnose machine problems and conduct repairs.
Work with Shop Foreman and other HD Shop Mechanics to identify parts and wear items to be ordered in anticipation for repairs.
Receive guidance and instructions from HD Equipment Shop Superintendent and Shop Foreman on a regular basis in the effort of constantly improving on production and performance.
Must be familiar with electronics, wiring diagrams and use of electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot repairs.
Must be able to look at mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, identify problems, and think about possible solutions.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Critical Skills/Expertise:
Strong technical background.
Strong communication skills.
In depth knowledge of Construction Equipment technology.
Able to multi-task.
Required Experience:
Postsecondary degrees in diesel technology, heavy equipment mechanics, small engine repair, engineering or similar. May be substituted with 10 years HD shop experience.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must be familiar with CAT, John Deere, Volvo and Competitive products.
Valid driver’s license is required. Candidates with a CDL will be preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Able to crawl and climb on/under machines
Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds
Able to walk over construction/excavation sites (irregular terrain)
Able to stoop, bend, kneel and stand
Able to operate a motor vehicle day and night Environmental Conditions:
Requires ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard, damp floors and ground.
Works on parts systems that are dirty, oily, or greasy.
Frequently exposed to possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while working on equipment.
Exposed to the hazards of working around machinery with moving parts.
Potential exposure to loud noises.
May at times work with various chemicals such as solvents, oils, fluids, and lubricants. MSDS are available.
Ability to handle hazardous materials with proper protection.
Required to wear various levels of PPE (hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety glasses; hard hats, knee pads, insulated rubber or leather gloves, fall protection, and protective clothing.
Some safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may have to be worn or used for long periods.
