Job Description

This position is the recognized resource providing private forestry assistance in the WUP. This position is the Service Forester administering forestry practices and requirements in the assigned area for the Commercial Forest (CF) Program. The WUP Service Forester delivers department programs of technical forestry assistance to municipal and private forest landowners, including the Forest Stewardship Program (FSP). The WUP Service Forester collaborates with the CF and FSP Program Leaders on communication and coordination of DNR programs with those of other agencies. This position assists with implementation of the goals and objectives for private forest lands in the Forest Action Plan. This position provides forestry information and makes landowner referrals to consulting, industrial foresters and conservation district foresters. The WUP Service Forester attends and participates in regional and statewide private forestry related meetings.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in forestry.

Experience

Three years of professional experience in the protection, development and maintenance of forestlands, including one year equivalent to a Forester P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in a field of natural resources with not less than 24 semester (36 term) credits in forestry related courses.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
