This opportunity is with the Energy team in MCI, applying “technology with a purpose” to solve the digitization for the Energy companies around the globe, across major sectors like Oil & Gas (https://news.microsoft.com/2021/03/29/schlumberger-and-microsoft-expand-partnership-to-bring-open-enterprise-scale-data-management-to-the-energy-industry/) exploration & production, Carbon (https://news.microsoft.com/transform/northern-lights-is-innovating-for-the-future-of-carbon-transport-and-storage/) & sustainability, and storage & transmission. In addition to proprietary tech and differentiation, our team leads Azure’s contributions towards open-source initiatives in this space (e.g. OSDU (https://community.opengroup.org/osdu/documentation/-/wikis/Platform-Current-State#azure) ).

We are looking for a highly motivated Engineering Leader with keen technical acumen and a proven track record on product delivery to help define and build the product and services for the Energy industry. You will be expected to lead others and to create clarity in a complex organizational & Product environment, generate energy through a bias towards action, and deliver results against commitments to internal & external stakeholders. You are expected to demonstrate passion for engineering design, long term thinking coupled with engineering rigor and efficiency in building features of high quality. You will be instrumental in accelerating Azure penetration in the market, by building high scale cloud services, products and underlying platforms that enable big data analytics, ML/AI/Copilot for industry specific solutions. Responsibilities

  • Bring clarity for high ambiguity areas, create energy, and drive results – you’ll set a vision, rally the team behind it, and deliver measurable business results.

  • This role has people management responsibilities including driving employee growth and development, executing projects, and managing performance.Demonstrate the Microsoft manager attributes of model, coachand care with the engineers on your team & beyond.

  • Plan and prioritize work for your team, including collaborating with partner organizations.

  • Create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing engineers.

  • Constantly learn and grow as an engineering leader, working within the Manager excellence community at Microsoft.

  • Guide partnership with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements within and across teams.

  • Create proposals for architecture and design documents, and lead testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions.

  • Guide team in creating clear and articulated plan for testing and define success for test outcomes.

  • Guide teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Guide team within and across teams in producing extensible, and maintainable code. Reviews debugging tools, logs, telemetry, and other methods, and acts as an expert for others to verify assumptions through writing and developing code proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur across products and multiple teams.

  • Guide team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders. Act as an expert and guides team experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes and monitors developments for prototyping and testing across products and multiple teams, interprets results, and makes decisions on next steps or ship decision.

  • Lead efforts to reduce incident volume, looking globally at incidences and providing broad resolutions.

Qualifications

  • You have a Bachelor’s/Master’s in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.Previous experience with web services, storage, cloud computing, and large-scale systems is a must

  • You have at least 3 years of experience leading a team of engineers by setting clear expectations, keeping team members energized, and delivering business results.

  • You have 12+ years of industry software engineering experience, including delivering highly available cloud-based services and platforms

  • You are a strong collaborator - you can explain your work, you ask great questions, you listen to your peers and your customers, and you like to give and receive feedback.

  • You can role model that it’s not enough to write working code. It must also be well-designed, secure, easy to test, easy to monitor in the cloud, and easy to add to over time.

  • You are willing to leverage and build on top of the work of others to quickly meet customers’ and engineers’ needs – including adopting standard cloud capabilities and toolsets

  • You are customer obsessed, have a strong passion for technology &strong analytical skills
