University of Maryland, Baltimore School Mental Health Counselor OR Senior Counselor in Baltimore, Maryland

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Department of Psychiatry (Child and Adolescent Division) has multiple full-time openings within its University of Maryland School Mental Health Program for a Counselor or a Senior Counselor dependent upon the chosen candidate’s qualifications. * This position will provide a full continuum of mental health services and consultation to children enrolled in Baltimore City Schools. The selected individual will provide a broad range of clinical services including: 1) assessments and evaluation, 2) individual, group, and family therapy, 3) crisis intervention, 4) counseling support with teacher consultations, and 5) school-wide education and training regarding mental health issues. The primary duty of the position is to provide direct clinical services and school-based consultations, including clinical diagnosis and treatment plans, professional consultation with school staff, and program development at the school site. The position is also responsible for maintaining patient records, assisting with billing forms, and completing other required paperwork. As part of the array of clinical work, the selected candidate will provide intensive mental health services for youth with DSM 5 Clinical Diagnoses that impact daily functioning and success at school. For this aspect of the position, the selected candidate will provide services under a fee-for-service model within a University of Maryland outpatient mental health center. the selected candidate may also provide individual and group supervision to master’s level trainees working in the School Mental Health Program. For additional information on protocols and exemptions, please visit theCOVID−19 website./ *Primary Duties-Counselor * The Counselor works under the supervision of a licensed professional and assist individuals and/or groups in identifying, understanding and decreasing the impact of social, emotional and environmental factors associated with illness, through the provision of a broad variety of direct social services and programs. Work under the supervision of a LCSW-C or LCPC when any care provision is involved. * Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify psychosocial condition and needs, and determine best course of therapeutic treatment. * Evaluate, refer, and counsel individuals, couples, or groups to assess needs and address issues. Provides preventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who are in or threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being. * Document client(s) progress. Perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures. * Development of treatment plans and healthcare evaluations for a variety client issues. * Consult with other therapists, case managers and, if applicable, researchers. Provide work coordination and training to graduate and undergraduate level trainees in their clinical work. * Performs other duties as assigned. Primary Duties-Senior Counselor * Senior Counselors work independently with individuals, couples, families, and other groups to help them to manage and overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues. With the client as a participant, senior counselors use individualized treatment plans and a variety evidence-based practices and programs to help process and address feelings, and behaviors; assists with helping consumers to achieve social-emotional-behavioral success and well-being. Must work under supervision of LCSW-C or LCPC if working independently when any care provision is involved. * Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify psychosocial condition and needs, and determine best course of therapeutic treatment. * Evaluate, refer, and counsel individuals, couples, or groups to assess needs and address issues. Provides preventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who are in or threatened by situations detrimental to their well-being. * Document client(s) progress. Perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures. * Development of treatment plans and healthcare evaluations for a variety client issues. * Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues who are not fully licensed as mental health providers (e.g., LMSW/LGPC, graduate trainees). * May supervise other counselors, interns, students, or employees per licensure. * Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested. * May be responsible for review and submission of authorized documentation for reimbursement per licensure. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Counselor Education:Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology. Experience:None required. One (1) year of professional or field experience related to mental health services or programming preferred. Certification/Licensure:Licensed Master Social Work - (LMSW) or Licensed Graduate professional Counselor (LGPC) in the State of Maryland. Other:No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement. Qualifications - Senior Counselor Education:Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology. Experience:One (1) year of post-licensure (LCSW, LCSW-C, or LCPC) experience in related area of treatment including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. One (1) year of professional or field experience related to mental health services or programming preferred. Certification/Licensure:State of Maryland licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C). Other:No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of position requirements.
