Johns Hopkins University IT Project Manager in Baltimore, Maryland

IT@JH Research Data Analytics and Engineering is seeking an IT Project Manager who will manage a dynamic portfolio of research data projects, including high priority initiatives. Research IT is a growing and developing area within the IT@JH organization. This role will help support and implement a new set of service offerings for the Research Data Analytics and Engineering unit being rolled out under the Office of the Deputy CIO. The objective of this unit is supporting and advancing the management of research data across its lifecycle.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and delivery of quality outcomes for projects.

  • Works across the University and Medicine, engaging with faulty, leadership, and technical and non-technical staff.

  • Provides structure and organization for the portfolio of work supported by Research Data Analytics and Engineering by helping to organize meetings, structure the work, drive tasks forward, identify and remediate risks, track major milestones, and communicate to stakeholders regarding the project status.

  • Supports project documentation including business case development, project charters, and status reports.

  • Manages individual projects and organizes tasks using appropriate methodologies and tools.

  • Curates individual projects into the Research Data Analytics and Engineering portfolio and works closely with the Director to document and communicate the unit’s roadmap.

Specific Devices, Software, Projects

  • Responsible for managing data and engineering related projects, including those that are high-profile and cross multiple organizations.

  • Projects will leverage IT@JH managed software and involve a variety of data storage and analytics platforms, both on-prem and cloud-based.

  • The unit employs a variety of project management methodologies including Kanban and Scrum and uses several tools, including JIRA, to support task tracking.

Scale/size of Area, Project and/or System Supported

  • The portfolio is dynamic and includes smaller, less complex projects as well as highly complex, larger initiatives. Projects may be short-term or multi-year efforts. The candidate will need to engage with individual contributors and leaders in a variety of roles and levels within the University and Medicine organizations.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technology concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to communicate honestly and transparently with all levels of an organization while maintaining professionalism and respect.

  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter and proactive

  • Ability to effectively navigate and drive multiple priorities and balance conflicting demands.

  • Proven success meeting project deadlines, budgets, and timelines.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Six years of IT experience, with some project management experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient user of JIRA, Confluence, and Office 365 Suite

  • Experience managing data-related projects including enterprise data products and repositories

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • Experience working in a highly decentralized, consensus-driven environment, such as an academic institution.

  • Experience with establishing and growing collaborative partnerships.

Starting Salary Range: $99,800 - $175,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm
