Description/Job Summary

The instructional designer consults with faculty, administrators, and instructional staff on the design, development, and evaluation of instructional programs, materials, methods, student support systems, teaching and assessment techniques, and on the construction of evaluation of programs and studies that promote effective teaching and learning through formative and summative evaluation procedures, data sources, and instruments. The role involves frequent and consistent collaboration with the director of eLearning and coordinator of eLearning. Areas of focus are educational and Internet technology, including major learning management systems, social media, video conferencing, Web 2.0 and multimedia tools, and office software; managing individual and group projects; application of QM standards in designing courses; researching and developing educational tools, technologies, best practices that enhance student learning outcomes; and training and mentoring faculty and staff on the use of technology to enhance learning.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Applies front end analyses including needs assessment, task analysis, content analysis, learner characteristic assessment, environmental review, and instructional analysis; applies and modifies various instructional design models and instructional systems components to develop thorough instructional and learning systems and environments.

  • Designs measurement instruments and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data; develops and provides faculty development activities, in service training and innovations, selection and construction of materials, and instructional uses of new technologies.

  • Conducts applied research and evaluation, interprets data, and recommends procedures and solutions for effective learning and instruction; explores and evaluates new technologies, materials, and techniques for their applicability to educational uses.

  • Applies adult learning principles to web-based delivery methods, training program design, development, and evaluation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, or closely related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years on-the-job application with Instructional Design and curriculum development in a professional setting (Master's Degree may be substituted for 1 year of experience).

  • Adobe Learning Suite (preferred)

  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as a team member

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe eLearning Suite.

  • Prior experience with Learning Management Systems.

  • Deep instructional design knowledge and application with the ability to convert this into engaging learning experiences.

  • Ability to write strategic learning plans for curriculum.

  • Apply ADDIE principles to meet course goals and/or training objectives.

  • Proven e-learning design and development experience and experience with designing, developing, and delivering blended learning solutions.

  • Excellent analytic and evaluation skills.

  • Keep abreast of developments in area of expertise by participating in local trade association meetings, reading current journals, books, and magazine articles.

  • Competent and knowledgeable in the area of multimedia hardware (scanners, digital cameras, video cameras, printers, etc.)

  • Competent and knowledgeable in the area of digital Media Editing Tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, etc.)

  • Competent and knowledgeable in the area of distance learning environments (e.g. Canvas and/or Blackboard)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and build strong relationships with a diverse group of users and support staff.

  • Familiarity with computer related ADA requirements and ability to incorporate features to comply with Section 508.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
