Johns Hopkins University Emergency Medicine Sr. Physician Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a Sr. Physician Assistant experienced in Emergency Medicine to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health care team.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform a comprehensive, accurate history and physical including chief complaint, presenting signs and symptoms, past medical history, and interval history. Recognize abnormal and significant findings and discuss with attending physician as appropriate.

  • Order diagnostics and interpret abnormal findings.

  • Discuss or staff cases with attending physician when appropriate per department standards based on acuity or venue.

  • Initiate Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations.

  • Maintain technical proficiency with approved procedures including suturing, wound care, and orthopedic care.

  • Initiate and prescribe medications.

  • Complete all aspects of medical documentation in accordance with department standards.

  • Arrange consultations and referrals when needed.

  • Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on department protocols, operations, research, and procedures providing input and feedback.

  • Remain proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines.

  • Remain abreast of new treatment modalities and technologies within the field of emergency medicine.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Provider will work proficiently and autonomously in the various venues of ED.

  • Current CPR/BLS/ACLS certification.

  • Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

  • Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date of direct patient care.

  • Orientation as a PA observatory trainee may be considered prior to credentialing strictly for the purposes of familiarizing new staff with departmental operations, protocols, documentation, and resources prior to the start of any direct patient care.

Physical Requirements

  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).

  • Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Visual acuity for near vision.

  • Good hand/eye coordination.

  • Fine motor skills for performing such tasks as suturing and incision and draining of abscesses.

  • Gross motor movements for applying splints.

Working Conditions

  • Attention to patient safety, personal safety, and safety of co-workers due to contact with potentially infected body fluids with blood.

  • Use appropriate universal precautions for any contact, droplet, airborne pathogens.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body.

  • Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.

  • Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.

  • Minimum of 3 year's experience in related clinical area and obtained proficiency in area of specialty.

  • Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years related experience.

Starting Salary Range: Min $108,000 - Max $151,400 ($125,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
