Johns Hopkins University Assistant Director, Classroom Management in Baltimore, Maryland

Reporting to the Homewood Registrar, we are seeking an Assistant Director, Classroom Management who will oversee the general pool classrooms at the Homewood campus of Johns Hopkins University (JHU). This role will manage the requests reported by various constituents and will prioritize, and ensure timely delivery of service, collaborating with all other responsible offices. The position will ensure that the classrooms are well stocked with needed furniture, equipment, and materials and that the overall classroom condition is acceptable. The Assistant Director will be familiar with the protocols, policies, systems, processes, furniture, equipment, and materials in all functional areas he/she/they are accountable for. In addition, the position interfaces with leadership and staff from other university departments as needed to ensure communication and reporting are all handled in a timely and effective manner. The person in the role also ensures that all classroom protocols are adhered to as well as works with staff to provide training and support in all areas of operations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements proactive quality control processes to ensure classrooms are in good working condition with proper furniture, equipment, and materials.

  • Conducts classroom inspections regularly to identify deficiencies throughout the general pool classrooms.

  • Ensures classroom cleanliness, and that all furniture, equipment, and materials are accounted for and in good working condition.

  • Reviews and tracks work orders via a web-based ticketing system. Assists with triaging initial classroom issues to resolve for maintenance, material, and/or technology.

  • Manages the ticketing system; ensuring timely action; prioritizing where necessary; escalating when needed; closing the loop with constituents reporting the issue; and providing monthly pulse/report to the Classroom Advisory Council.

  • Responds to emergency situations as needed during working and off-hours and process classroom changes as needed.

  • View the availability of access to classrooms and schedule blocks if maintenance or major repairs are needed.

  • Maintain an active list of furniture makes and models and current vendors; what is still orderable; what is out of date/service; or the maker is defunct.

  • Maintains compliance with departmental security, audit procedures, and university policy.

  • Serves as administrator responsible for classroom safety and meeting physical ADA compliance standards and works closely with JHFRE to ensure compliance.

  • Supervises student workers to include recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.

  • Maintains communication with all key staff members (e.g., maintenance, custodial, classroom technology) to ensure they are receiving updated information on the condition of the classrooms.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

  • Must be able to effectively and appropriately interact with others in a poised and professional manner, even under challenging circumstances.

  • Requires strong observation skills and attention to detail.

  • Must be able to effectively supervise and motivate a team of employees to work toward a common goal within pre-defined operational parameters.

  • Requires general computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office software and related programs.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with limited supervision.

  • May need to work multiple shifts with flexible scheduling to provide adequate coverage for the operational needs of the Homewood campus.

  • Must successfully complete all required training courses.

  • Must handle confidential information appropriately, with an added focus on all required HIPAA protocols.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Must willingly participate in JHU compliance monitoring training course upon hire to ensure a clear understanding of CDC requirements and JHU operational guidelines.

  • Must willingly participate in any required systems training.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to freely move about and remain mobile for an extended period (up to 8 hours)

  • Ability to see within normal parameters.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Oversight of part-time student worker(s).

**This position is a Required Attendance/Essential Employee position which may require the incumbent to report to work during an event (weather or otherwise) that causes JHU to curtail its operations by closing some or all the university’s offices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in building trades, or related field.

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative/operations experience required.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $47,500 - $83,300 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
