the Aquatics & Fitness Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing matters related to the aquatics program (i.e., supervision and implementation of water-based activities), staff and lifeguard training and supervision (as relating specifically to the pool area), and maintenance of the physical pool area. Although primary emphasis is on water-based activities, this employee will also have responsibilities for the planning and implementation of land-based activities.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide supervision of students in the pool, locker rooms, and other recreational/fitness areas.

  2. Provide direction to school staff in the context of aquatics and fitness activities.

  3. Plan and implement water-based and land-based fitness activities for students in the LEAP program. Collaborate with teachers, related services, and program administration such that activities are consistent with overall program and student goals. Maintain safe and clean environment for aquatic activities.

  4. Test pool chemical levels and maintain daily records of readings as noted in the KKI Aquatics Policies and Procedures.

  5. Oversee pool security by controlling access of students/staff during program hours.

  6. Purchase, inventory, secure, and maintain all aquatic instructional equipment, including first aid equipment for the pool area. Purchase and maintain equipment for land-based fitness activities.

  7. Conduct swim tests, safety briefings, and trainings for school staff.

  8. Oversee the use of the pool and compliance with all regulations. Keep records and certifications posted and up-to-date according to Maryland and Red Cross regulations and others.

  9. Oversee and assist with scheduling of pool for all KKI School

  10. Notify supervisor, Director of PCSRP, or campus Facilities Manager of any conditions relating to the pool or locker rooms that may require attention.

  11. Assist with supporting the school mission and goals in a positive and professional manner with a student-centered school culture and climate as designed by the administration as specified in school and KKI policies and procedures.

  12. Participate in and contribute to inservices in a professional and collegial manner.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma required.

  • BA/BS preferred.

  • Education specific to special education preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Adaptive physical education experience preferred.

  • At least two years of life-guarding and water safety experience required.
