The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: A Database Specialist II is the journey level of work designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling database management systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers. The specialist is involved in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data requiring the application of statistical techniques, and the independent interpretation of collected data. This data will be used to assist in the management of the MDTA’s Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) program and ensure contract compliance. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assemble, collect and compile statistical data using database SQL queries, regularly scheduled reports or existing records;

  • Interpret and analyze collected data and determine percentages, medians, mean and frequency of data distribution;

  • Determine, develop, and evaluate the method and sources of collection and organize, prepare, and submit reports, conclusions, and recommendations for the department;

  • Implement quality assurance standards for the database gathering, assembling, analyzing facts, drawing conclusions, and devising solutions; and

  • Conduct reference and research methods involving database gathering, assembling, analyzing facts, drawing conclusions, and devising solutions.

    Employees in this classification receive direct supervision from the Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available for this position.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems.

Experience: One year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, and controlling database management systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers. ** Six months of experience must include writing and executing domain-specific language (SQL) queries for data analysis and reporting.

The ideal candidate may possess the following:

  • Experience with Business Intelligence Tools

  • Experience with Oracle Database

    Notes:

    1. Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems may be substituted for the required education. (Must provide transcript)

    2. One year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining applications systems and programs using third-generation or other generally accepted computer programming language or maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers may be substituted for the required education.
