Job Title: Arts Visual Instructor

Reports To: Director of Studio Programs

Work Location: Northwest YMCA, Baldwinsville, NY

FLSA: Part-time, non-exempt

Salary Range: $20/hour

Position Summary:

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. Under the direction of the Arts Studio Director, the Arts Instructor is a team player who demonstrates strong skills in class and lesson development; organization; interpersonal, verbal and written communication; and collaborative relationships. The Arts Instructor’s responsibilities include lesson planning, class proposals, material lists, attendance and class schedules. Art lessons will teach the principles of art education in the given genre of the class, while keeping in line with the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. The Arts Visual Instructor provides leadership and assures the well-being for all, in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • A college degree related to the position’s related art field.

  • Prior expence working directly with students in an art education related environment. Ceramics experience encouraged.

  • Possess and demonstrate excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, decision-making, problem solving and leadership skills.

  • Possess strong experience and skills in their given field of fine arts.

  • Provide examples of personal art work to demonstrate their abilities.

  • Possess and demonstrate ability to work both within a team and independently.

  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to develop and implement meaningful and creative lesson plans appropriate for the targeted age group.

Trainings & Certifications:

  • Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment to position.

  • Must hold first aid, CPR, AED, within first 30 days of employment.

Physical Demands: Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, type, run, jump, kick, catch, throw, climb, kneel, bend, reach, balance, crouch or crawl, climb and/or balance, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, stoop, lift/move and carry approximately 35 pounds, and use hands and fingers. Must be able to lift and/or maneuver large gym equipment. Special vision abilities required distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical office environment; however, some activities are conducted in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations dependent on the program. At times, the employee may be exposed to situations where injuries may occur. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average.
