Schedule: Mon/Wed 4:30 - 7:10 pm; Sat 8 am - 12:30 pm

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the ensuring that all swim instructors and Lifeguards work to provide safety, well being and enjoyment of the aquatic area for all participants as well as the safety of all persons while on duty; this includes patrons observing on deck as well as participants in the water. To achieve patron safety the aquatic supervisor must provide supervision on accident prevention through safety checks, and rule enforcement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Be on the pool deck during swim lessons.
Ensure all participants in the pool for recreation swim and swim lessons are in a safe environment.
Fill out a shift sheet and address any issues with the Supervisor.
Maintains program areas and equipment in an orderly and safe manner, according to YMCA and association standards.
Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign to support the YMCA vision and mission.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the staff, members, volunteers and within the community.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Perform supervisory duties to include; supervision, training, employee recognition and discipline, address complaints and resolve problems effectively.
Supervise Swim Instructors and Lifeguard staff ensuring they are always following all safety and policy regulations.
Assist in finding coverage for subs.
Ensuring, in accordance with all Swim Instructors and Lifeguard job descriptions, they are following NYS Health Department bather codes, maintaining safe, pleasant and professional aquatic environment.
Make members feel comfortable and at ease.
Be open, friendly and approachable to members.
Seek to learn member’s names and welcome them personally.
Ask members if there is any way we can help, listen to members suggestions – be empathic and show interest in their concerns.
Ask about their goals, progress and satisfaction.
Introduce members to other members and staff.
Be passionate about impacting and transforming the health and well-being of members and our community.
Experience, Education & Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two years commensurate experience, including supervision of staff.
Knowledge of Swim Lessons, YMCA preferred but Red Cross accepted.
Proven track record of building program participation and relationships with members, participants and volunteers.
Experience in a wide range of physical activities with the ability to instruct and perform duties of the swim instructor and Lifeguard.
Excellent interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.

Trainings & Certifications:
Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection Series trainings prior to initial assignment to position.
Must hold and maintain a current CPR, First Aid, Oxygen and YMCA Lifeguard certifications within 6-months of hire date.
Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment.
Physical Demands:
Remain alert with no lapses on consciousness. Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water with background noise and perform all needed rescue skills. Operate alone as an instructor, without other instructors for support. Project voice across aquatic area. Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, swim, bend, reach, crouch or crawl, climb and/or balance, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, stoop, climb up and down an elevated chair, lift, move and carry approximately 35 pounds, climb a minimum of two flights of stairs (approximately every ½ hour) and use of hands and fingers. Ability to handle emergency situations. Specific vision abilities required close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is normally performed in a typical aquatic environment. At times, the employee may be exposed to situations where injuries may occur. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas may occur.
