Summary
The NDI (Nondestructive Inspection) Level III Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing and performing advanced nondestructive testing (NDT) to ensure the integrity and safety of critical components. This role requires expertise in multiple NDI methods, including Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Electromagnetic (ET), and Ultrasonic (UT). The Level III Lead Technician will develop inspection procedures, provide training and guidance to junior technicians, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct and oversee inspections using PT, MT, ET, and UT methods to assess structural integrity and detect potential flaws in materials or components.
Create and validate NDT procedures, ensuring adherence to industry and company standards. Adapt procedures to meet unique project requirements as necessary.
Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to Level II NDT technicians. Evaluate their work, provide feedback, and ensure team competency across NDI methods.
Accurately document all inspection results, procedures, and maintenance records. Ensure traceability and maintain compliance with quality assurance requirements.
Adhere to all safety protocols and quality regulations, including ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) and other relevant standards.
Actively participate in audits and inspections to uphold quality and safety.
Regularly check, troubleshoot, and calibrate NDT equipment to maintain optimal performance and accuracy during inspections.
Work closely with engineering and maintenance departments to coordinate inspections, discuss findings, and contribute to maintenance and repair planning.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret security clearance.
In order to obtain a secret clearance, qualified candidates must have US Citizenship.
Ability to pass physical screening requirements
Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or GED.
Level III certification in Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Electromagnetic (ET), and Ultrasonic (UT) methods.
Supervisory experience is preferred.
Meets vision requirements per NAS 410 Table V
Work Conditions
Position is located OCONUS and in an austere environment; work is being performed on the flight line, limited hangar or aviation field environment.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and parts, tooling and other awkward items sometimes weighing greater than 50 lbs, including up and down stairs.
Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
