Amentum Vehicle Maintenance Technician - Light Wheel Electrical Specialist in Baghdad, Iraq

The Vehicle Maintenance Technician - Light Wheel Electrical Specialist will be based at one of the Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will report to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager. This position will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, rebuilding, or adjusting air, electric, and hydraulic brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems and components, computerized engine and transmission controls, drivetrains, gas and diesel engines, cooling systems, air conditioning, and steering components. This position will report to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Installing new vehicle wiring systems.

  • Installing and troubleshooting immobilizer and alarm systems.

  • Gathering information from customers about issues with their electrical system.

  • Diagnosing electrical issues and proposing a course of action.

  • Providing customers with estimated time and cost for repairs.

  • Repairing and replacing faulty wiring or electrical systems.

  • Servicing of electrical automotive parts.

  • Servicing and repairing electrical systems on equipment and vehicles.

  • Maintaining a clean working environment.

  • Completing job reports and processing paperwork.

  • Use electronic engine analyzers and scanners to diagnose and repair engine performance problems, ignition, fuel injection, and emission systems.

  • Understanding of electrical principles and wiring diagrams to diagnosis and repair malfunctions of equipment/vehicles electrical systems.

  • Maintain service logs and maintenance records on vehicles/equipment and ensures work is complete and conforms to standards and requirements in accordance with technical manuals, and local SOPs.

  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.

  • Assist in training lower-level workers in automotive mechanic techniques.

  • Test vehicles and equipment for proper operation by operating/driving and using specialized test equipment such as scan tools (Tech II, Ford IDS, GM GDS 2).

  • Proper use and disposal of hazardous materials according to established guidelines.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Five (5) years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance and repair. This is a hands-on maintenance job requiring excellent troubleshooting skills on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and an advance ability to diagnose and maintain a broad range of equipment is necessary.

  • Auto Electrician Requirements:

  • Auto electrical qualification certificate.

  • Proven work experience as an auto electrician.

  • Advanced knowledge of modern vehicular electrical systems.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Complex problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to operate electrical diagnostic equipment.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Ability to work standing or in a crouched position for long periods.

  • Ability to distinguish subtle color variations.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of equipment/vehicles repair in the following specialized fields: gasoline and diesel engines, transmission, industrial and construction equipment repair.

  • Knowledge of accepted methods, practices, materials, and tools of the specialty field to which assigned.

  • Ability to research information regarding special parts and adapt tools and materials to special problems.

  • Knowledge of brake, hydraulic, electrical, driveline, gas and diesel engines, steering, cooling, and air conditioning system and components.

  • Ability to diagnosis and repair complex repair problems within accepted guidelines.

  • Knowledge of proper use and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with established guidelines.

  • Research information regarding special parts

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and customers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written work papers.

  • Diagnosis and repair complex repair problems within accepted guidelines

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent education is required

  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license from home of record, EPA 609

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or be able to obtain a favorable US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills. Strong understanding of technical manuals.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by PAE and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous out of home country experience and work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.

  • Experience using Maximo and Alldata Pro.

  • Experience using automotive scanners including Autologic, Autel Maxisys, Ford IDS, GDS II, MDI II, and able to perform ECM and BCM programming.

  • Experience working on armored vehicles, material handling equipment, GMs, Toyotas, and ATVs.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50- 55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
