Amentum Emergency Vehicle Technician in Baghdad, Iraq
The Emergency Vehicle Technician will be based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for providing preventative maintenance and mechanical repair work related to the maintenance and repair of specialized fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and related mechanical equipment and will report to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
DUTIES:
Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Determine preventative maintenance needs and provide necessary maintenance and repairs for all fire vehicles, including heavy fire apparatus, and equipment.
Check operating efficiency of fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, and fire mechanical equipment.
Determine stock needs and order and maintain replacement parts and supplies.
Repair and adjust engines, transmissions, brake systems, hydraulic systems, water pumps, and accessories.
Ensure pump systems provide appropriate volumes of water at specified pressures during periodic and required annual pump testing.
Tune engines: clean, repair, and replace fuel systems, pumps, strainers, fuel lines, fuel tanks, gauges, and wires; and recondition electrical systems.
Perform general maintenance of all fire equipment, including oiling and lubricating various components.
Perform heavy vehicle systems and component failure analyses.
Perform maintenance/repairs on all systems for vehicles under shop maintenance including tire change and wheel balancing.
Ensure fire apparatus conforms to National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) standards.
Respond to emergency callouts and mutual aid requests for mechanic services and perform emergency field repairs on fire apparatus and related equipment.
Provide input to staff regarding budget, equipment utilization, equipment replacement, and equipment needs.
Develop specifications for new fire apparatus and equipment.
Provide for overall management of the Fire Department fleet of emergency response apparatus, and staff/support vehicles.
Provide direction to the Mechanic Apprentice, temporary assistants, and/or interns in shop related duties.
Provide classroom and hands-on instruction to Fire Department personnel pertaining to maintenance and operation of fire apparatus and related equipment.
Attend regular training to maintain basic and advanced skills and certifications.
Assist the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor in identifying appropriate training opportunities for Heavy Vehicle Mechanics and the Apprentice Mechanic with a goal of providing succession training.
Perform related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and motorized equipment.
Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
May assist in training lower-level workers in automotive mechanic techniques.
Road test vehicles.
Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform various clean-up activities.
Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
REQUIRED:
Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Five (5) years’ experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician or ten (10) years’ experience as a vehicle mechanic.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of methods and tools used in repair and maintenance of fire vehicle apparatus, including diesel engines, fire pumps, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Knowledge of basic record keeping and work order system procedures.
Working knowledge of diagnostic software as it relates to general automotive fleet, fire apparatus and heavy vehicle equipment.
Knowledge of N.F.P.A. standards for commercial and fire vehicles.
Ability to operate and drive a variety of fire vehicles and equipment.
Ability to understand, diagnose, and repair modern fire apparatus electrical systems, including computerized engine, transmission and brake systems.
Ability to use mechanic tools and diagnostic equipment with skill and safety.
Ability to plan, organize, assign, and coordinate the work of assigned staff.
Knowledge of automotive repairs and maintenance
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to lift about 50lbs heavy parts and equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance or required duties.
Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite applications and computerized fleet work order systems.
Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting vehicle maintenance functions at an overseas facility.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.

Education: Certified Emergency Vehicle Technician with valid certificate.
Passport, Licenses and Certifications: As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts , candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages. Valid drivers’ license and valid truck drivers’ license
Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) or be able to obtain a favorable MRPT certification or US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.
Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.
Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
DESIRED:
Relevant overseas automotive mechanical experience.
Hands-on experience working with equipment manufactured by OSHKOSH or E-One is highly desirable.
Supervisory experience.
Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
Experience working overseas.
