Amentum Air Cargo Specialist in Baghdad, Iraq

The Air Cargo Specialist will be based at the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC) in Baghdad, Iraq. The Air Cargo Specialist will be responsible for accepting, processing, storing, palletizing, transporting, and documenting all relevant cargo. Additionally, the Air Cargo Specialist will operate various types of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to efficiently load and offload military and commercial aircraft. This position will report to the Air Cargo Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring the utilization of Safety Management fundamentals in all aspects of Air Cargo operations.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Determines aircraft cargo configuration and loading requirements using the Allowable Cabin Load, passenger limits, and aircraft load specifications in accordance with applicable guidance.

  • Plans, selects, sequence, and manifest cargo and / or mail on airlift missions while maximizing aircraft utilization and safety of flight.

  • Ensures hazardous materials are properly prepared and documented before entry into the military airlift system.

  • Determines and implements necessary safety and security precautions for handling and storing hazardous materials, special cargo, mail, and baggage for air transport.

  • Inspects cargo to verify airworthiness, validates the pre-load plan weights and dimensions and ensures In-Transit Visibility in accordance with applicable guidance.

  • Selects, assembles, palletizes, and transports cargo loads to and from aircraft and storage areas.

  • Build and breakdown pallets and prepare rolling stock for shipment.

  • Operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including K-Loaders, high lifts, and all-terrain forklifts to load and unload military and commercial aircraft.

  • Utilize portable scales and other specialized equipment to accurately weigh, measure, and package cargo according to military regulations and transportation guidelines.

  • Perform routine inspections of Material Handling Equipment to assess serviceability and identify any discrepancies.

  • Utilize Global Decision Support System (GDSS) and Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES) proficiently to facilitate air cargo planning, tracking, and execution IAW U.S. Air Force standards and procedures.

  • Collaborate with military personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate transportation schedules, prioritize cargo shipments, and resolve logistical challenges, ensuring timely handling and processing of cargo for air transport.

  • Prepare, complete, and maintain air transportation records, documents, and reports.

  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. Government clearance – U.S. DOD or DOS issued Secret Security Clearance, or ability to obtain one, and maintain it for the duration of employment on this contract.

  • Have a passport with a minimum of 18 months validity and at least 8 blank pages.

  • Four (4) years of General and Special Air Cargo experience.

  • Four (4) years of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Inspector experience.

  • Four (4) years’ experience processing air cargo data in the GATES systems.

  • Four (4) years’ experience operating MHE such as 10K Forklifts and K-Loaders to load and offload aircraft.

  • U.S. military Air Transportation experience and overseas CENTCOM AOR experience required.

Education:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Have a current U.S. Air Force HAZMAT Inspector Initial certification or the ability to renew an expired one within a short period of time.

  • Joint Inspection certification or the ability to complete training within an acceptable period of time.

  • Must have a valid Home of Record issued drivers’ license.

  • Must be qualified and previously licensed to operate GFE Material Handling Equipment (MHE) such as 10K forklifts and Halvorson 25K Loaders on an airfield.

  • Must be able to obtain and hold an airfield access badge.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have a strong knowledge of air cargo operations and the technical phases of inspecting and processing all classes of cargo.

  • Proficiency in preparation of the required documents and marking/placarding of air cargo for military aircraft.

  • Must have experience providing excellent customer service in supporting contract responsibilities in an OCONUS environment.

  • Relevant overseas experience, ideally in the Middle East, with knowledge of local culture and customs is preferred.

  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules and under pressure of deadlines while maintaining performance standards.

  • Requires strong analytical capabilities with respect to metrics and process improvement.

  • Must have knowledge of all principles and processes involved in Aerial Port Operations.

  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and administrative details.

  • Requires advanced computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

DESIRED:

  • Current U.S. Air Force Load Planning certification.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 12 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
