BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY Performs complex (journey-level) security enforcement work safeguarding priority resources, buildings, personnel, and other equipment belonging to the Texas Military Department and Department of Defense (DoD). Guards and patrols property against loss or damage from fire, theft, vandalism, accident, or trespass; maintaining order and protecting life. Reports to the Senior Shift Lead and works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work Hours: Shift Work, 40 Hours a Week ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs duties as the Installation Entry Controller. Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors and other persons to maintain security of installation premises. Works with the public on a daily basis issuing visitor passes, giving directions and receiving and/or reporting complaints. Evaluates and makes recommendations on matters of safety and security. Directs traffic and/or performs crowd control. Patrols base to protect against suspicious activity. Reports all emergencies, accidents, and incidents to Assistant Shift Leader and/or Senior Shift Leader. Performs after-duty hours checks of buildings and alarmed facilities. Apprehends or detains suspects in accordance with applicable state laws and organizational operating procedures. Assists federal, military, and local law enforcement agencies during VIP visits. Prepares detailed incident/accident reports. Obtains statements from witnesses, suspects, and complainants. Performs first aid. Participates in all mandatory state on-boarding trainingand on-the-job training specific to security enforcement duties and responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory and training personnel. Performs shift work which may require the need to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays; to include short notice requirements. Maintain weapons qualification on assigned weapon system(s). Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required. High school diploma and/or transcript, from an institute of higher education, must be furnished to HR upon employee orientation. EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in a peace officer, law enforcement, military or security related role is required. Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Word, Outlook or Excel) is required. REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE: Valid driver's license (DL) is required. * Texas Drivers License will be required within first 30 days of employment. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business. Copy of DL must be furnished to HR upon employee orientation. Must be able to obtain a valid Level III Commissioned Officer License issued by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Private Security Bureau (PSB) within 6 months of hire. (Preferred at the time of hire). OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Minimum standards for employment with Texas Military Department Security Forces consists of the following. Failure to maintain standards may be cause for termination. Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation in accordance with AR 190-56.
