BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY Performs highly advanced (senior-level) counseling and psychological work. Provides assistance to Service Members of the Texas Military Department (TMD) with mental health or other emotional needs. Serves as a regional promoter of mental fitness for TMD and networks with community resources best suited to aid clients. Work involves assessing, counseling, reporting and research. Reports to the TMD Counseling Program Manager and works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative a d independent judgment. WORK HOURS: Monday Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week Tuesday Friday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week Monday Thursday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Markets military behavioral health and wellness programs in communities throughout Texas. Coordinates with Texas Military Department unit leadership to support mental health awareness and wellness promotion plans. Conducts intake, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment plan, safety plan, behavioral health screening, recommendations regarding service member prognosis and stability, and referral services for Texas Military Department service members. Provides evidence-informed clinical treatment services to Texas Military Department service members. Collaborates with the Texas Military Department, at request of service member, regarding release of clinical treatment records or recommendations regarding stability. Responds to critical incidents involving violent acts or major injuries and death providing postvention and grief support. Assists in military behavioral health training for Texas Military Department. Supports 24/7 Counseling Line Program as shared responsibility with other behavioral health clinicians. Analyzes and reviews trends and patterns of problem behaviors throughout the Texas Military Department. Coordinates with Texas Military Department Family Support Services programs to offer holistic care and resources to all clients. Conducts mental health-related training for the Texas Military Department. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates mental health and wellness programs. Conducts individual, couple, family, and group counseling sessions for service members within the Texas Military Department. Develops and executes plans for behavioral health assistance for Texas Military Department service members during disaster response missions. Participates in quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to psychological service provisions. Attends relevant training and continuing education to maintain the essential functions of licensure required for the position. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with the agency state employee policies procedures handbook. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited Masters or PhD program with major coursework in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is required. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience providing clinical treatment as an independently licensed provider is required. Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel) is required. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prior experience providing mental health services to military members is strongly preferred. Experience in the administration of a relevant counseling program is preferred. Prior military service or experience working in a military environment is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Expertise in substance use counseling preferred. Expertise in treatment of couples, families, and groups preferred.
