Amazon Sr Software Development Engineer, External Fulfillment in Austin, Texas

The Amazon Fulfillment Technology (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. We are responsible for scalable and innovative solutions to enable fulfillment of millions of items every day across the globe. Our team owns the charter to make the AFT WMS more accessible and flexible for emerging markets and businesses. We are starting several key initiatives in our external fulfillment and are looking for a Senior Engineer who wants to be challenged with building and driving innovative and scalable systems that manage our external fulfillment network. This opportunity includes architectural challenges in making a large volume of constantly changing data available to various applications owned by diverse customers (internal and external) and business use cases; as well as innovative solutions for managing data quality, complex event processing. You will be empowered to think big, invent on behalf of our customers, make high judgment calls to keep teams moving and find elegant solutions to hard problems. There are opportunities for you to leverage your engineering skillset across many teams and initiatives, as well as go deep and get your hands on the hard problems you are passionate about. You will be influencing senior business and technical leaders to get these solutions delivered. Key job responsibilities

As a Senior SDE you will be expected to:

• Serve as a technical lead on our cross-functional projects.

• Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems by working independently as well as with Principal Engineers, as needed.

• Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.

• Fully and completely understand system interdependencies and limitations.

• Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals on technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of junior SDEs.

• Have technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your knowledge and experience.

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.

External Fulfillment

AFT’s External Fulfillment team builds flexible, scalable solutions specifically designed for the needs of Amazon’s emerging markets and businesses.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
