Position Overview: The Special Education Complaints Investigator serves in the Special Education Complaints unit, which is responsible for investigating special education complaints filed against public education agencies in the state of Texas. The unit is a part of the Office of Special Populations and Student Supports. The Investigator is a technical expert in the field of special education who performs highly advanced (senior-level) investigative work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. They will conduct multiple investigations simultaneously, including investigations that impact a class of students and/or that are systemic in nature. The Investigator implements effective techniques for evaluating a public education agencys special education program and crafts corrective actions required of public education agencies found to be noncompliance with special education requirements and ensures the implementation of those corrective actions. The Investigator facilitates communication between public agencies and complaints to resolve disputes related to special education and provides focused technical assistance to public agencies regarding special education requirements. They will also develop and give presentations to educators, parents, and members of the public, as well as to staff members in TEA, related to special education and dispute resolution. You may perform other functions as assigned. 1. Product Development: Performs advanced investigative work to determine compliance with special education statutory and regulatory requirements and produces work products that are error free and legally defensible.2. Quality Control and Feedback: Conducts quality assurance reviews and evaluations of notices, investigative reports, and related materials to ensure compliance with state and federal statues, rules, and regulations.3. Communication and Data analysis: Develops, collects, organizes, analyzes, and synthesis materials to complete complaint reviews, external communication, and investigation reports.4. Technical Assistance Support: Provides focused technical assistance to educators, parents, members of the public, and TEA staff members related to special education or dispute resolution. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college r university Experience: At least four (4) years of experience in determining and/or correcting noncompliance associated with special education programs is required. Experience in the administration of special education programs and conducting investigations is preferred.
