Applied Materials Senior Software Engineer - Edge Node - (E4) in Austin, Texas

Overview: Applied Materials is looking for an experienced software development professional, with 7+ years of relevant software design and development experience, to join a new team working on the edge node of a sensor and machine-learning platform that drives optimal results for our customers. This platform runs on a mix of Windows and Linux, with software written in Python, C# and JavaScript, so expertise in one or more of these is important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executes significantly complex software deliverables.

  • Interfaces with various internal customers regarding requirements analysis and specifications.

  • Contributes to software specifications, and designs software products.

  • Develops software code and unit tests.

  • Performs software tests on code and enhancements.

  • Troubleshoots a wide range of significantly complex software problems.

  • Root causes bugs and implements bug fixes.

  • Develops software documentation.

Functional Knowledge

  • Must be a technical expert in one or more of the required software technologies.

  • Must demonstrate in-depth or breadth of expertise in own specialized discipline or field.

  • Must have 7+ years of experience in software development.

  • Must be able to write effective low-level design documents.

  • Must have 5+ years of experience in Python and/or C#.

  • Must be an expert in Linux and/or Windows.

  • Experience with data/machine-learning libraries is a plus.

Business and Interpersonal Skills

  • Must be able to effectively communicate complex technical specifications; both spoken and written.

  • Works within general functional policies and industry guidelines.

  • Highly detail-oriented thinker.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar degree
