Conduct independent research in RNA biology and medical applications of RNA biology using a wide variety of techniques, such as tissue culture, growth of bacteria, biochemical and genetic assays, gel electrophoresis, preparation of plasmid DNA, purification and analysis of novel reverse transcriptase, high-throughput RNA-sequencing and genome engineering, RNA biomarker identification, cloning and in vitro mutagenesis, reporter assays, protein expression and purification, and data analysis. Provide instruction, assistance and mentoring to graduate students. Write manuscripts and assist in the preparation of reports, abstracts, manuscripts and proposals. Make presentations at lab meetings, attend lab meetings and other meetings. Order chemicals and supplies specific to current project.
