GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe OAGs Antitrust Division is seeking an experienced, self-driven investigator capable of thriving in a collaborative work environment and independently overseeing cases with complex legal and factual issues. This position performs moderate to complex investigative work by providing investigative and legal support work in antitrust matters. The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes. The Divisions caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation which may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice. Licensed attorneys with a demonstrable interest and/or experience in antitrust enforcement or litigation are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSObtains and analyzes information, data, and evidence from a variety of sources associated with antitrust cases and complaintsAssists with conducting background investigations, which includes contacting and interviewing witnesses, taking thorough notes, and preparing interview summariesOrganizes and maintains voluminous case files, in both hard-copy and electronic forms, and ensures adherence to confidentiality requirementsSearches discovery databases, reviews documents, and identifies and codes relevant informationReceives and acts upon phone complaints from referring agencies and the general publicCoordinates investigations with other state and federal agencies and organizations involved in antitrust enforcement activitiesAssists with drafting Civil Investigative Demands and correspondenceProvides technical guidance to less tenured staffPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSInvestigator II:Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityKnowledge of investigative principles, techniques, and proceduresKnowledge of research methods and their application to research analysisSkill in researching and interpreting complex rules and regulationsSkill in learning new or changing computer systems and databasesSkill in applying investigative techniques and procedures to assigned casesSkill in writing and producing concise, professional quality documents and reportsSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, working under pressure and meeting deadlinesSkill in data analysisSkill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrievalS ill in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other applications in a Windows environmentSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with management and co-workersSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to work as a team member with federal or state agenciesAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to handle stressful situationsAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5% Investigator III: All of the above qualifications for an Investigator II PLUS:Experience: One year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: antitrust issues, market research, economic or statistical analysis PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in a field related to law, government, investigations and/or technologyExperience: Two years of full-time researching and compiling data, data extraction/query and analysis, using statistical methods and relational databases to analyze data sets, writing data-intensive reports, or closely-related experienceExperience: Legal assistant, legal secretary, or general office experience in a civil litigation environmentExperience: Two years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: investigative work, legal assistant/paralegalKnowledge: Knowledge of legal terminology and principlesSkills: Using database software; electronic filing; Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, e-discovery platforms including Relativity and Everlaw.Abilities: Use of applications for producing electronic discovery; perform legal researchCertifications: CLA, CP, or RP professional certification TO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
