ICU Medical Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic III - nights in Austin, Texas

FLSA Status - Non Exempt Position Summary * Possesses proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Maintains and services mechanical equipment, machinery, and components and performs skilled repairs of mechanical, electrical, building systems and equipment when necessary. Conducts periodic inspections to evaluate requests for repair. Identifies parts needed for replacement and places orders as necessary. Completes all work in accordance with established safety procedures. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Perform preventive maintenance duties and make repairs and modifications to production equipment in line with cGMP. Respond in a timely manner to demand maintenance calls, troubleshoot existing systems and installations. Assist with maintaining detailed maintenance records and parts inventory through the effective use of company CMMS. Constantly improve skill level in production maintenance to keep up with advances in technology and automation in the production processes. *Essential Duties & Responsibilities •Make repairs or modifications to production equipment utilizing the following skill sets: Controls, drawings, electrical, general mechanics, hand tools, hydraulics, machine shop, piping systems, PLC knowledge, pneumatics, RF, troubleshooting, welding, and programming. •Installation, checkout, and start-up of new or modified plant production equipment. •Perform PMs on production equipment and determine through these regular inspections the repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent failure of production equipment and improve reliability. •Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, to supervisors/manager, customers, dispatch, and peers in a professional manner regarding equipment repairs or problems. •Contact vendors, research problems, identify potential components, order maintenance machine parts. Track and turn in repairable flagged parts. Elevate part issues to supervisor/management quickly with potential solutions if known. •Assist with providing facts and details for formal investigations as requested. •Establish data communications with plant systems and equipment, upload and download PLC programs, troubleshoot using ladder logic and other diagnostic tools. •Develop and implement safety related improvements jointly with your supervisor. Maintain safety related guards and other systems on your equipment. Review and implement corrections to Lockout/Tagout procedures and drawings as required. •Complete all required training on time including any TPC, safety, GMP, or CAPA related training as assigned. •Maintain plant tools, calibrated instruments, and toolboxes in compliance with cGMP and SOP. •Adhere to cGMP guidelines, SOPs and general plant policies/rules and specific job-related SOP. •Work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of employees. •Evaluate rejects to determine corrective action. •Effectively and efficiently determine equipment issues to minimize downtime and manage cost and reduce product loss. •Actively communicate throughout every day with production operators and dispatch regarding equipment or process issues. Elevate those issue and work with the supervisor as necessary and as directed to correct them. •Perform other duties as assigned or required. Knowledge & Skills •Master troubleshooters, support project teams as a technical SME, write trouble shooting guides; Act as Train-the-Trainer for other mechanics; well-rounded electro- mechanical skills and basic programming knowledge. •Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. •May lead others during project-specific activities. Trains new/current employees with respect to documentation and department procedures. May provide input on performance evaluations to area manager. •Must be able to use tools such as, but not limited to, voltage and amperage meters, oscilloscope, megger, hand tools, measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers, and PLCs and associated software. •Must be able to use Outlook mail. (Excel and Microsoft Word preferred). •Must be able to work overtime as needed (including weekends), adjust schedule quickly, and willing to be called in to meet operational demands to minimize downtime. Maintain and provide company with current working phone number. •May be required to become Qualified Fellow Employee (QFE) and/or instruct other employees as needed. •Must be able to pass GMP and area certifications. Promotes sustainment efforts of process improvements by adhering to new guidelines at all shifts and platforms (2). Utilizes various Improvement tools including Gemba Walks, 5-WHYS, and Value Stream Mapping to identify and eliminate waste; to solve issues to the root cause. •Principles of Operation - (1). Routinely meets efficiency stretch goals in a safe and quality focused manner (2). Understands complex equipment operations across multiple platforms (3). Performs effective changeovers across multiple platforms Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience * •Must be at least 18 years of age •High School diploma required. •Requires 4-8 years’ experience with industrial mechanical, electrical or similar systems. •Alternatively, an associate’s degree in a technical area pertinent to maintenance and 2 years of experience will be considered. *Physical Requirements and Work Environment * •Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment. •Must be able to lift max of 50 lbs. unassisted, be able to lift and move equipment/parts up to 600 lbs. assisted. •Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time ICU Medical is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
