Monday to Friday; 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

  • Schedule varies including work during early mornings, weekday evenings and nights, and weekends as needed.

  • Some local and state travel required for meetings and conferences.

  • Requires evening and weekend hours during the Texas Legislative Session (Six (6) month period which occurs every odd numbered year between January and June).

  • We are open to considering candidates for this position in either Austin or Arlington region.

Salary Salary is commensurate based on qualifications and relevant experience.

Job Summary

Assists the Vice President of Government Relations in managing, coordinating, and implementing the expansion of UT Arlington’s outreach activities to elected officials under the office of government relations within the President’s office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads, coordinates and implements a comprehensive communications effort for the Office of Government Relations.

  • Advocated & communicate key data, information to key internal and external stakeholders

  • Creates and manages communications efforts to external and internal stakeholders.

  • Analyze state legislative and state agency public policy and rules.

  • Maintains appropriate databases, contact databases, and other management tools related to government relations activities, including updating related lists.

  • Build and maintain relationships in key legislative and agency offices.

  • Coordinates and prepares correspondence and presentations as necessary.

  • Follows and provides analysis of state policy as directed.

  • Coordinate presenters, messages and presentations for elected official campus visits, working with the Senior Director of Government Relations.

  • Plan and coordinate events and attendance for the office.

  • Prepares briefing materials for the President & Vice President in advance of meetings as requested.

  • Perform administrative operations associated with the Austin office.

  • Regularly report to the Vice President for Government Relations on communication efforts, policy issues and developments of importance to UT Arlington.

  • Performs special projects as it relates to promoting and improving community and governmental relations for the University.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in the Texas Legislature.

  • Demonstrated experience in Texas legislative policy, communication, and state agency procedures.

  • Knowledge and working experience of the legislative processes at the state and federal level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or 10 years related experience in Texas State Government.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact with, and effectively communicate with external community members. faculty, staff, students and public/governmental representatives.

  • Possess expert computer skills and high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and think creatively and independently.

  • Must be a self-starter.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required.
