About the Role Working in Fiscal and Agency Affairs is not your typical legal government job. If you want to work in an office where no two days are the same, you enjoy the challenge of tackling novel legal questions, and you want to support the agency as it shapes public policy, this is the ideal position for you. We dont just practice one area of law, we practice many. Our division serves as the agencys in-house counsel and, as you might imagine, our work involves a wide-ranging variety of legal areas everything from state fiscal law to cybersecurity to federal securities law, plus the random questions that pop up. We support one-of-a-kind programs like the only 529 college savings plans in Texas and the first-in-the nation state-owned bullion depository, and often add new ones like the new broadband development and opioid abatement grant programs. Because nobody does exactly what we do, we find applicants with: (1) the research skills necessary to dive in and learn new areas, (2) the years of experience needed to spot issues, and (3) the creativity to find solutions. Salary Range Research Specialist III:$5,083.33 - $5,500.00 per monthResearch Specialist IV:$5,500.00 - $5,916.66 per month NOTE: Hardworking applicants with great references are eligible to telework up to 2 days per week. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree. Research Specialist III: One (1) year of experience as one or more of the following: paralegal, research specialist, legislative research analyst, federal securities law or banking law compliance professional, accountant, auditor, or experience in a technical field that requires advanced research and analysis. Research Specialist IV: Four (4) years of experience as one or more of the following: paralegal, research specialist, legislative research analyst, federal securities law or banking law compliance professional, accountant, auditor, or experience in a technical field that requires advanced research and analysis. Substitutions One year of experience in the areas listed above may substitute for thirty semester hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years). Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in English, Communication, Ac ounting, Finance, Business, Library Science or in a technical field that requires advanced research and analysis. Summary of Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
