AT&T Hotel & Conference Center Assistant Controller in Austin, Texas

  Principle Responsibilities & Position Purpose:

The Assistant Controller assists in the management of the day-to-day operation of the Accounting Office at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center in Austin, Texas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Assists the Controller in supervising hotel financial activities and controls including accounts receivable, auditing, payroll, income audit, budgets, forecasts, and night audit.

  • Directly responsible for accounts receivable, night audit, cash controls, and income audit and performing audits and checklists.

  • Assist in preparation of the yearly budget and monthly forecasts.

  • Assist AP Clerk with processing payroll.

  • Spend time with departments and assist on operational issues to drive revenues and control costs. Prepare financial analysis of hotel operations.

  • Ensure that sales and occupancy tax are collected properly and reported to the College.

  • Communicate goals and objectives and inspire employees to achieve those goals.

  • Participate in the associates’ performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.

  • Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are followed according to Compass’ policies.

  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the manager.  Furthermore, tasks and responsibilities may be added or revised based on the volume of business and the need for the work to be completed at the present time .

  • Mandatory adherence to the Platinum Service process on a daily basis.

    In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by management based upon the particular requirements of the company.

    Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Flik from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

    SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

     

  • Basic Property product knowledge, i.e., staffing, operations, safety, security, union rules, structural, terminology, fire, police and health codes, hotel policies, city ordinances.

  • Basic knowledge of the property structure/layout and how all departments interact

  • Basic knowledge of various types of set up styles used in the meeting rooms

  • Basic knowledge of audio visual equipment, telecom equipment, lighting and room temperature control

  • Extensive knowledge of banquet menus.

  • Extensive knowledge of market and related meeting industry.

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts

  • Quantitative processing of data via office machine equipment, mathematical computations and analytical skills necessary to accurately determine and communicate financial, forecasting and space utilization calculations.

  • Proficiency in the use and operation of computer systems with the ability to navigate efficiently through Word, Excel, Outlook, Delphi (or in house sales system), Market Vision, Internet and Intranet

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, proposals, general correspondence and similar written materials.

  • Possess a good conceptual understanding of electronic devices and the ability to operate such items as copy machines, slide projectors, microphones, computers, portable radios, pagers, etc.

  • Ability to complete a contract in compliance with all checklists, standards and property policies.

  • Interpersonal skills to provide overall guest satisfaction.

    QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

    EDUCATION

  •       Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Hospitality.

  •       Solid training in all areas of accounting from AP, AR, collections, inventory control, payroll,         budgeting, P&L preparation and analysis.          

  • Exceptional math and computer skills including Excel, Word, and accounting software.

  • Management experience, preferably in hotels/conference centers.

  • Four years of previous hospitality accounting experience, preferred.

  • Can handle fast-paced, high-pressure environment with ability to change

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    EXPERIENCE LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

    Requires a minimum of 4 years experience in conference center and/or hotel accounting.

    All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available).
