What You Will Be Doing:

The Electric Power Technical Training Instructor develops and conducts programs to train employees and occasionally customers of Yancey Bros. Co. on the repair, installation, maintenance, programming, troubleshooting, diagnostics tooling, proper processes, proper methods and operations of Electric Power equipment. The Power Systems Technical Training Instructor will also instruct safety topics and other topics that convey the company Mission, Vision, and Values. The Technical Training Instructor may work as a classroom instructor and / or a Program Instructor on the shop floor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Confers with management and staff to determine training objectives and technical needs.

  • Creates training programs / implements existing training programs- including / utilizing outline, text, handouts, tests, and laboratory exercises.

  • Lectures classes on safety, installation, programming, testing, maintenance and repair of machinery, systems, and equipment- following the outlines, handouts, and text materials.

  • Demonstrates proper procedures being taught, such as programming, testing and repair.

  • Observes class participants in the classroom and in the lab setting- answering questions and determining additional activities to ensure learning.

  • Administers written and practical exams to determine understanding and competency. Creates performance reports to evaluate learning.

  • Facilitation / Instruction at an expected rate of up to 75% of available time.

  • Schedules and secures equipment, training aides, training location and classroom related materials.

  • Leading intact work groups over extended periods of time in primarily shop settings to complete “Boot Camps” designed to produce entry level technicians.

  • Check-in, site visits and reinforcement of taught skills / processes may be required to support established technician programs.

  • Assist monitoring the Career Development programs of our technical employees.

  • Updates and develops training aides used in the classroom. Deal with vendors.

  • Administers written and practical exams and writes performance reports to evaluate trainees' performance.

  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to obtain information / skill sets needed to retain competency in the training arena Participate in required safety programs, work in a safe manner and hold other accountable for safe actions.

  • Additional duties as assigned by manager.

    Who We Are Looking For:

This position is focused on supporting our Electric Power Generation, Industrial (engines) and Electric Power Rental businesses. To be successful in this position you should have a strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of tools applicable to engines, switchgear and industrial applications. The candidate will have experience in the repair of related equipment and a desire to learn new. You should possess a strong sense of urgency to serve our employees, skills sets to effectively communicate via facilitation, e-mail, and one-on-one. The ability to take direction, be self directed and work in a team environment is essential to this position as well.

Education/Experience:

  • Level 3 Technician or above (equating to Yancey Bros Co Career Development Program)

  • 5 years of industry related experience and/or training

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • The qualified candidate will have great experience in at least 2 of the following: Engines, Electronics, Electric Power Generation and On-Highway Truck.

  • Skilled in computer applications - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Acrobat and other applications associated with building or presenting course material or presentations.

  • The ability to communicate to participants and management effectively and professionally.

  • The ability to communicate through email - sending & receiving notes, attachments, meeting notifications and working with a calendar function.

  • Effective use of Cat Systems (or ability to learn)

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Valid Driver License.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus- the use of Safety Glasses in the shop area is a requirement.

  • Verbally communicate for extended periods of time

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, running diesel engines and outside weather conditions.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but will contain instances of high levels of engine and work-related noise (Hearing protection may be required and is provided).

  • Travel to Yancey Bros. Co. sites, instructor training and customer sites will be required and may require overnight stays (not usually more than five consecutive nights).

  • Have or the ability to obtain Caterpillar Certified Instructor status.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand for extended periods, work in shop environments, and communicate effectively to their classes or participants.
