Job Title: Health and Safety Manager
Job Description
The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing a comprehensive safety program from the ground up at a small facility. This role will involve providing direction, leadership support, and guidance to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and effectively managing EH&S risks. The position will not be overly busy, making it ideal for someone new to the safety role or for an experienced professional looking to slow down in their career.
Responsibilities
Assist in providing direction, leadership support, and guidance to ensure conformance to regulatory requirements and reduce liabilities by managing EH&S risks.
Ensure compliance with all applicable company requirements and local, state, and federal laws including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DHS, HAZCOM, LOTO, Lab Safety, DOT, HAZMAT, RCRA.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of new laws, regulations, industry standards, and stakeholder requirements.
Review existing policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure EH&S compliance and develop new policies and procedures as necessary.
Ensure required records, permits, and reports are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines by company, local, state, and federal agencies.
Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices for new and current project/equipment/process changes and develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
Help establish Safety Key Performance Indicators for the facility and develop programs to achieve them.
Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies for onsite audits, regulatory compliance, and required corrective action and/or remediation.
Manage the investigation and assessment of work-related incidents, injuries, illnesses, and near misses.
Work with medical providers and workers compensation providers to manage employee return-to-work programs.
Manage Ammonia Process Safety Management (PSM) and/or similar programs.
Lead the Emergency Response program and respond to/manage emergency situations in accordance with site emergency response plans.
Manage and maintain the planning, tracking, and implementation of all EH&S-related training.
Essential Skills
2-4 years of experience as a safety team lead in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of safety, EH&S, OSHA, environmental safety, production, warehouse, and farming.
Experience with regulatory compliance and managing EH&S risks.
Ability to monitor and evaluate the impact of new laws, regulations, industry standards, and stakeholder requirements.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 10 certification (additional OSHA certifications can be obtained once hired).
Experience in managing Ammonia Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
Experience in leading emergency response programs.

Work Environment
The work environment includes a brand new facility. The team currently consists of 12 members, which will grow to 30 when fully staffed. The position reports to the regional safety manager. The dress code includes jeans and steel-toe shoes. The role operates during the day shift.
